Best beach waves 150 meters from town center in front of Bar Las Olas. Island and reef surfing available by boat.
Atmosphere
Playa Samara is a beginner/intermediate, longboard surfbreak. Unusual in Costa Rica where heavy waves are the norm. Big waves outside on the reef or on the island.
General
Samara is a lot of fun. For the serious surfer there are boat trips to excellent waves in the Samara bay and at nearby beaches, notably camaronal.

Walk to Jesse's - Jesse's surf shop is still in Samara. It is just a bit down the beach now. They have a beautiful new gym and the instructors are still great! They are definitely worth the walk! Plus they don't make you feel uncomfortable like the C and C "dudes".
