Best beach waves 150 meters from town center in front of Bar Las Olas. Island and reef surfing available by boat.
Overview
Atmosphere
Playa Samara is a beginner/intermediate, longboard surfbreak. Unusual in Costa Rica where heavy waves are the norm. Big waves outside on the reef or on the island.
General
Samara is a lot of fun. For the serious surfer there are boat trips to excellent waves in the Samara bay and at nearby beaches, notably camaronal.

Walk to Jesse's
Jesse's surf shop is still in Samara. It is just a bit down the beach now. They have a beautiful new gym and the instructors are still great! They are definitely worth the walk! Plus they don't make you feel uncomfortable like the C and C "dudes".

Correct to Jesse's
I visited Samara at the end of July and talked to Jimi the owner of Jesse's who is awesome. They were beginning the process of moving the shop, not closing. You should be able to find them on the Eastern side of the beach, past all the bars.

Samara
Jesses is no longer there but i found the guys at C and C to be excellent, got a couple of lessons off them and they really got me out of my comfort zone and were excellent instructors. The beach only works at high tide though!! The week i was there it was 6-12 feet which apparently was really unusual for there..i think hurricanes and tsunami warnings had something to do with the the size!! Lots of guys surf the island and the outer reef too but the beach suited me just fine!!
