Driving S. on your way through Timaru on SH 1 turn left at sign Patiti Point. Go under rail bridge turn right and follow road round (1/2 km) to spacious car park.
Paddle out in comfort in channel to right of break. Use 5.2 wetsuit or better in winter, gloves, hood and booties. In summer surf between 5 am and 9 am before the onshore stuffs it up.
Overview
Atmosphere
Much loved by the mellow locals, right in town. Often hollowish or with holding walls. When cranking it delivers up to three sections carrying you right to the shingle beach, from where you circle out again clear of the impact zone.
General
Seldom spectacular this wave often yields a gnarly takeoff at midtide as it sucks back of the edge of the flat reef. A satisfying spot. Look south across the bay from the Patiti car park to Jack's Point which often has a wave when Patiti's dead.
carolinebay
caroline bay usually flat bt when storms or big easterly swells rap in it can be fun
