Take the turn off at Hira, just before Nelson if heading west. Cable Bay Road, canīt miss it. Drive north from Nelson for 10mins you will come to a little church on your left hand side of the road, it's signposted on the turnoff, if you reach the shops you have gone too far by 150 meters.

short wave
I grew up in Nelson and surfed Cable Bay heaps. Its a short wave,even in optimum conditions it would never even be 150m long, 300m is just ridiculous because the wave only breaks off the end of the point, never down it. Offshore in NE, it is only really any good in a big N swell. Anyone who has surfed Nelson regularly knows where to go for really good lefts..just next door!!
