Fields Access
turn off state hw1, drive till you hit the coast and turn off on a gravel road, these parts can be a bit hairy so if you hit moutonau beach gone to far and some fishermen might nut off at you, head along the road about 5 km then short walk across a farmers land to a 50m cliff.. not to hard to find your way down.

Additional Surfing Infos
try to park you car up the road or have a yarn with the farmer otherwise its no point checking this place out as hes a pretty loose unit. Check the surf before you drag all your gear to the cliff as its not to often this place works, but when its on bring your sleeping bag and sleep on the beach as iv rebuilt a little shack there,
last time i surfed this place was in Feb and it was going off! breaks in two places, a point break from the right hand side and about the 200 metres along the beach theres some rocks and a fickle break here, but on a big day these two spots join up for a really nice ride. When i was a lid rider got sum nice barrels by the rocks, but the points more surfable.
This spot is listed in heaps of surf guides and places but hardley ever breaks so thats why i choose to share it, although its not much secret if you know canty coastline well.
  Overview
Atmosphere kinda scary if you go hunting during lambing season.. avoid scaring any of this farmers sheep (speaking from experience)
General big ups to the "to cool" surf crew

Fields does go off!!
I do admit it is fickle and have wasted many visits going there,However I once went there on a Northwest with I think a south swell wrapping around and it was epic.It was fully barrelling, mainly rights from the point. It was about 3ft and Im not sure if it could handle raelly big swell, but it definately went off that day!!!

a myth
I have been checking this place out for years and i have only seen it break once, it is utter crap, even when it was breaking it was rubbish. Don't bother wasting your time, go to the peninsula or up to kaikoura- you wil always find a better place than this **** hole

Get real
Any one can walk into a book shop and see this break in the 'Surf-riders Guide to NZ' there plain as day (which has been around since the 60s!). The guy who posted it did note that it is fickle, do you relly think that people are going to travel across the world to see a fickle break with an angry farmer? Its s locals spot and will stay that way, why would you go through the hassel to find it when there are more accessable spots around?
