These guys are dreamers
This wave is a hoax. Who does this fraser think he is the mick fanning of south taranaki.
I hear that he ripped 10ft managhume while extremely hung over one time.
I hear that retired patea maori club members dominate the lineup these days. It could be hard to get a wave.
Also I hear its popular with overweight doctors from the local hospital.

hoax?
Just read the detail on the screen, it aint no classic wave! Purely novelty value. surf the crunching peaks and barrels to the north of the breakwall dodging the drift wood...no, drift trees!Surely it has'nt change that much in 30 years.

30 years ago today I....
So strange! I surfed this spot as an Aussie traveller many years ago back in the late 70's (no details so as to protect the innocent).A novelty break which can be great fun with the waves winding along the break wall up the river mouth. Is the meat works still there? If so avoid surfing if the water looks red.....it is blood discharge! The north side was the best spot with blackish-green barrels cast from the black volcanic sand below. A great little town but average surf. Better breaks up towards New Plymouth....and so many...and so heavenly! I must return one day.
