4wd only, Drive out to Makra town, take the turn off the road just after the golf course to head up behind the cemetery to the large sheep station there (forget the name) take the dirt road up the hill at all intersection take the right... the first beach you come to is Te Ika bay or hillbillys... has a mine shaft and a hit there
after hillbillys the road continues into a seconed bay, havent surfed there but look like it has a primo left hand point break on a huge day and theres a nice right hander than sucks up on the smaller days a the bottom of the cliff between Te ika bay and bay X... has one dodgey rock but nothing wellingtonians arent used too.
Overview
Atmosphere
Wouldn't surf here alone as its a long way from anything, havent attempted the trail on a wet day as its a bit of an intense drive over on a dry day... clay track, definatley 4wd only. very hard to pick given that its 20 min drive over the hill and atleast 30 min from the nearest suburb... but if you are totally over the obnoxious crowd at Titahi bay and looking for an adventure... here is the place to go. if the surf is crap the 4wding is insanse!
this seems to get bigger swell than Titahi bay as its not blocked by mana island and on the big days has a nice right hand point break as well as the beach break.
need to go here ona reasnobaly big day.. no smaller than 3-4 feet at titahi bay, but has super potential with no corwds.
General
Its not Lake Ferry or White rock but its somewhere differnt to surf.. has been my secert spot for aprox a year but would be nice to share with a few people... gets awfull lonley sometimes pluss id like to see some photos of someone scoring it.
looks deadly
went to check it the other week. But wasnt sure wat rd access to go on and if u went thru the farm land, def worth checkin on the rite swell.
