Have you checked the new New Zealand surf guide on this coast? Volumes of material, and this site just says "spot 1". For those who know, it was only a matter of time, "one of the worlds best left points" etc etc. When they gonna build a road to all the points, not just the first one or two?

Trip to NZ
Just about any snowboarding you find will be on the south island - and I mean south, near Queenstown the best. Mt Ruapehu on the north does have boarding, but not very good in my opinion. Surfing on the other hand is great on the north island, especially the west coast near Raglan and Hamilton, and Piha up west of the big smoke. You won't find much of anything in surf on the south island unless you're invulnerable to the cold. Water is FREEZING! Best of luck on your trip...
