Northwest Rock Access |
| |
Walk round side of mount maunganui to harbour entrance (signposted walking track), 10-15 min walk , walking track goes straight past it. There is a port harbour marker, paddle from the inside and sit to the side of peak to get a feel of the place. |

Atmosphere |
Right in the entrance to a major harbour watch for large ships dashing into harbour to get out of mega swells. Outgoing tides can be swift and massive, there are occasional shark sightings and also orcas, at certain times of the year. Helmet recomended as it sucks off a boulder shell, some good barrels have been had here but very tricky, fast, rocky wave, chose them wisely. |

Rarely gets swells big enough and from the right direction, but when it's maxed out along the coast it can be worth a look. Crazy scary place. |
