grom in fiji - Am learning to surf and would love to spend some time in Fiji. Do you know of any good learner places that are affordable and accessible?

Info about Nagigia - Yes. Read some of my posts on the Frigates and Cloudbreak sections. I discuss the situation in Nagigia. My advice, boycott the place! There are other spots on Kadavu where the waves are still free and just as good as Nagigia.

what about sure &dive rendezvuos? - hey "been there"thanks for the info!anyone have info on surf &dive rendezvuos? so far they have the best rate for dive certs, and i think we would only have to stay 2 nights 3 days then we can move on to kadavu and etc.....

whoa, that's not me will! - for the record, i'm not the 'lot owner' who spoke below. although it's pretty accurate, i'm no enforcer. i've still only been there a few times and that hardly qualifies me to set anyone straight. i've got no issues with the owners of WBR. they seem to be trying their best.

By been there, enjoyed it fine , 25-09-2003

kim, try seashell cove - there you'll find affordable accomodation, reputable dive guides, excellent dive sites, and fair surf potential.

I don't believe we've met... - But if you've been through Waidroka, you obviously know the scoop. You sound like a 'straight shooter' yourself Will.

Chris, is that you? - I have spent some time at Yanuca and Waidroka, enough to see the good and bad. The comments of the anonymous lot owner were pretty accurate I must say. Pipe can crank, but its not exactly Indo perfection, and needs to be big to show its form- and as mentioned, the local breaks don't pick up lots of swell. It is extremely frustrating to pay 20 bucks to surf it for 3 hours with 20 crew on a 1-2 foot day- take my word for it! Frigates definitely is world class on its day but is easily blown out- not as consistent as the resort operators will claim in their advertisements. But it can't be denied that "The place has potential" - excellently put. The vibe around Waidroka isn't good, even though there are some really nice Fijians working there with hearts of gold. When going on a surf trip to a destination such as Fiji, I would prefer to stay with locals (in a village for example) and keep my hard-earned dollars in the local economy- I know many people feel the same. I loved my time at Frigates Pass Surf Camp, we had some epic days at Frigates and Elijah was the best host ever. 8 hour days in the surf were followed up by delicious Octopus caught on the way back- what more could u want? I am deeply concerned about what will happen if the war goes on- surely he and Pena will not be able to compete with the financial backing of the money-hungry alternatives. I have had some great waves and epic times in Fiji but I think I will look at alternatives in the future unless the place can sort itself out. Please feel free to email me with any comments/thoughts. Good waves to all
