30 foot +
I went to spend one week in this island and found Tahai flat. Next day, early morning a 6'swell came in, and we had about one hour surf till it raised to 10 feet plus. It became too insane and dangerous. We've got out of the water for lunch. Later, from the bed and breaky home we where, we felt the ground shaking like an small earthquake. The lady-owner told us that it was because the waves were too big. When we went out to check the surf, we couldn't beleive our eyes. The Island seems like a ship floating on a huge sea, and Tahai was breaking in the middle of the ocean, huge and absolutelly perfect, like jaws or Maverick in their best days. The local fishmen told us it was over 10 metres. Next morning was 5, and by afternoon all left was a beautiful sunset. This wave is incredible, but there is no beach in front of it. Only big rocks. If it gets big, it becomes almost impossible to climb the rocks back to shore, and the island closes out for maritime acess. Only jet-skis can make it.Easter island waves are one of the best in the world, even better than tradictional big spots, but, I have to say, when it is big it scares the shit out of you.Not for beginner at all.

I live there
I was born there and I know how powerful and gnarly Tahai might become any given day. I've surfed a lot of times and every times has been totally insane. Besides those huge waves the place is surrounded by an incredible scenery and it's one of the best spots to seen the sunset. Lan Chile is the carrier and the summer (december throug march) is the busiest season pack of tourist. One can either fly from Chile or Tahiti depending where one comes from and deals can be found for $1200
