Old Pier faces the north/north east. an excellent left hander which is like a point. it is unpredcitable by looking at the weather knowing when its going to work. people ride through the pier and easy access to find. come 3 hours after high tide.
Old pier has 2 main surf spots. On a big day the wave will break behind mermaids off a reef and peel all the way down the beach to the second section where most people would surf. The second section is surfed right next to rocky island and then surfed all the way through the pier. In summer the beach receives a lot more NE swells which is the best swell direction while in winter the sand shifts and Westerly are the prodominent winter swells.Quite oftern old pier has offshore that are too strong which makes it really difficult to catch a wave.
The consistent surf brought in huge crowds at the pier on number of occasions
