| | Kirra actually has two waves, first and second groyne; its the first groyne which is the main event. One of the fastest heaviest barrels anywhere on a sandy bottom. The wave dredges water and sand of the floor and then jacks up and then mackas down the line. If you're fast enough and on it, its a sick ride, if you're too slow, you eat it...

One warm winter morning I paddled out at Kirra Point. It was mid week and not too crowded ... surf was chest to overhead and breaking cleanly on the rock bottom out on the point before they built the groin.
