Additional Surfing Infos
Kirra actually has two waves, first and second groyne; its the first groyne which is the main event. One of the fastest heaviest barrels anywhere on a sandy bottom. The wave dredges water and sand of the floor and then jacks up and then mackas down the line. If you're fast enough and on it, its a sick ride, if you're too slow, you eat it...
  Overview
Atmosphere One of the best waves in Oz, but you need the speed when its goin off.
General Needs a fair bit of swell to get it working

Kirra, Australia
By DrC123, 2007-01-09 20:47:57

One warm winter morning I paddled out at Kirra Point. It was mid week and not too crowded ... surf was chest to overhead and breaking cleanly on the rock bottom out on the point before they built the groin. As the swell wrapped

lots of agro guys. and lots of misspellings. surely you can't be "good" at surfing. its not globally a competitive sport, i thought it was considered a "hobby" or a "lifestyle" by those who treasure it most. is it not about enjoying the swell, each to their own and all that...

hi
I reckon that the people that who want to reserect the old kirra are stupid. They are sheep following rabbit off a cliff. Rab (save kirra too) are a pack of older generation of surfers whose style no longer fits the title of good surfer. It is no longer the sixties and no longer does the media think Malibu is a good wave nor any other wave that is at all fat, small, easy to ride, slow. Try your shit with people who are simpathetic to the kooks that can't make the drops and barrels behind the backwash at snapper in the car park and stay out of the water. Thank you Simon Anderson for inventing the thruster it is the greatest thing to happen to surfing that breeds a new type of surfing.
The suffering they will cause the gold coast will be long and terrible between kirra swells and will probably cause negative effects for the tourism industry there. Crying and laughing at the same time at your attempts. Get fucked

kirra before v kirra after
I had a gret surf at kirra one day in that killer east swell when the banks were well built up from the pumping and little swells from summer. I can honestly say that I have had my best waves at the new kirra.
