Additional Surfing Infos
Cylinder is a really great wave, works in several distinct sections from the top of Deadmans Beach to Home Beach, down in front of the hotel. The prize bank is usually of the corner of Cylinder Headland itself. A primo wave can go from in front of the headland, through a screaming barrel section, then continue right down to in front of the pub, a ride of maybe 200m.
Has a hideous rip with a lot of south in the swell.
  Overview
Atmosphere The locals dont like you dropping in, (strangely enough)if you drop in once expect to get dropped in on all day long by all of the local crew. The local crew seldom get violent, but still will tell you exactly where it's at if you're a rude pig.
General Ideally, you need east swell, south wind and the right sand build up - not an easy thing, but breaks like the old Kirra on its' day, with NO crowd over 6 foot. Yippee!

there r sharks at cylinder
i was just at strad on a holiday (6-20 jan 2007) and i surf at cylinder quite a bit coz frenchmans and main were pretty adverage. But anyway it was probly n hour before dusk no surfers out and i was check'n out the wave when i saw a bronze whaler cruzin in a wave after a feed of fish. So to say there aren't any shraks at cylinder is crap but don't let that put u of surfn there. The bulk of the shraks are at flinders beach around amity point DON'T SWIM THERE so many bul sharks its not funny.

cylinder
It is best 2 surf at cylinder on a low or falling tide. If u look closely u can see a sand bank that runs all the way from the headland across most of the bay. At high tide the sand bank is 2 far under water 4 it 2 realy take effect, the wave just rolls over it and into a gutter. At low tide the sand bank becomes shallower and the waves break over it perfectly given the right swell direction. And about the current to avoid driftn into the bay paddle out at deadmans the next beach to ur right (if ur lookin out to sea) and if its a dead low tide just us use the sand bank to get out heaps easier.
