Surf in Hoi An - Hi, I'm very new to surfing, as in had one wkend in Newquay with some friends last month, we all had ago and with the help of awesome instructers, managed to stand and turn a little, only catching small waves tho, on a 9' long board. I'm in North Vietnam now, going to head south on Wednesday (12th July) I've looked thro previous posts it's between Mui Ne Beach or Hoi An I think. Does anyone have an idea which would be better this time off year? One post recomends Hoi An and said you can rent from Safari Bar, sopunds great but it was an old post does anyone know if this is still true? Any help between now and Monday eve would be great. If not I'll post to say how I got on anyway.ThanksChris

coming to Da Nang in mid July 2006 - I'm travelling to Vietnam this next July.Saw some messages here below about surfing in the DaNAng area and wanted to know what's the surf situation now...- I won't bring my board, can I rent one there?- Will I find waves in Mid/end july? I don't expect to surf Uluwatu;-)- any good accommodation to suggest?- what's best to reach DaNang from Ha Noi and Ho chi Min? Domestic flight?- is the area safe?- any other surfing area to suggest in 'Nam?ok ok...lot of question, if any of you some time to answer will be much appreciatedgood waves to allStefano
SURF CHINA BEACH - VIETNAM - SURF IN VIETNAM CAN BE GREAT, THERE ARE A FEW POINT BREAKS SOUTH OF CHINA BEACH AND GOOD BEACHIES BETWEEN DA NANG AND HOI AN. THERE IS NO SURFING CULTURE THERE AND IF YOU WANT TO RENT BOARDS YOU HAVE TO GO TO THE "CHINA BEACH" RESORTS OR (A BETTER OPTION, IF YOU HAVE THE TIME) IS TO SEEK OUT 'GUNNER', A GERMAN BLOKE WHO LIVES IN FRONT OF MARBLE MOUNTAIN. ASK THE LOCALS, RENT A MOTO AND SUSS IT OUT. BYO BOARDS IS THE BEST IDEA. USE THE SWELL CHART TO CHECK THE POTENTIAL OF WAVES AND MAKE SURE YOU CHECK AT LEAST 10 TO 15KM OF BEACH COS THERE IS ISLANDS AND POINTS AND STUFF THAT CAN BLOCK THE SWELL.J.

Thinking of traveling thru there this New Years - Anyone that could give me any info, i'd be stoked....Jan has surf right?never been to Vietnam....Going to Bangkok on New Years...plan on head south thru Cambodia into Vietnam...go thru Ho Chi Min...Then up the coast...Going to bring a board..just 1 shortboard...Also, what's a good way to travel around there with a board looking for surf? Don't figure they have rental cars i can pick up at one place and leave at another... Is it pretty easy to just back pack it along the coast from town to town? and get taxi's around?Heard of some reefs and point breaks, so if any one could send me some info on where some of the spots locations/ town names whatever.... my e-mail is firstname.lastname@example.org
Boards in - I am going out to live in Vietnam (HCMC)for a couple of years. I'm looking to see whether I should ship my boards over or pick up something there. Anybody got an idea?
