welcome to the nightmare this is the future of surfing as we will know it. dirty beach, polluted water, insane (and tolally clueless) crowds, sleezy-cheezy desperates trying to squeeze a buck out of afore-mentioned hordes and (not that it really matters but) half a foot of greasy windswell

Gimp I was surfing this place once and then went back home and had an insane rash in my crotch. It got so bad I went to the doctors, I couldn't believe what I had gotten from the damn pollution, flesh eating disease, Had to fly back to OZ to get medical treatment. After two months in hospital I was released with half a right leg. This is not a joke.

? 4 Surfing Jinshan Hello Jinshan surfers. From my research, it seems like this is the closes place to surf if you're going to teach English aroud the Taipei area. From the Pointy Hat surf website, it looks like hundreds of friendly surfers frequent this area. The weather maps show potential for swell action, but how many days out of the year is it not 1 foot and mushy?

Good session...9-8-05 Had a nice session there..There was a typhoon building at the time, so it was chest- 2ft overhead. Paddle out was easy, just walk along the jetty, time your paddle between the sets and you were in the lineup in about 1 minute. Best peaks were just past the jetty. Long fast lefts peeling towards the main beach. Biggest obstacle was longboarders dropping in and wiping out in front of you. Overall, good clean, fast waves with an easy paddle.

cleaned up JamesEarlJones didnt mention, that recently a ship capsized directly in front of the beach, and then the wreck acutally caused most of the pollution, thats why so much stuff was swimming around as he explanned. This was short before a typhoon hit Taiwan, cleaned the beach and the wrack was gone, so a few days later the water was actually relatively clean and waves even more fun to surf at

Surfing On Trash Last weekend I went to Jin Shan to surf and it was really polluted. I was literally surfing on trash. Just to let people know, this beach is very dirty and if anything the water is dirtier. I.e. Paddling through styrofoam cups, bottles, and other much more disgusting debris. But besides that the wave isn't that bad. If the place got cleaned up it would be a really decent place to surf.

not gold but nice it is better than people tell here, i like the spot, as i started learning to surf there, and if u have enough time to go there if there are good conditions it is definitely fun!!! good conditions for a slightly advanced like me means: longboarding 1-1,5 metres waves, the only problem is to get the infos without knowing locals or (be able to read) local homepages.

Timing is everything I think with Jing San, it's all about timing, i recently visited on saturday April 23 2005. It was choppy, but I mean, there were some pretty big ones out there. Usually the bigger waves come right after a typhoon, and typhoon season hits around spring to late autumn. So check it out after a storm.--Taipei American School Student
