Unawatuna
We surfed here in over new year 2005/January 2006. Small fun 1-2 ft right hand point break, surfed by a bunch of local kids and teenagers. They're friendly if you're respectful, my mate clubbed one of them on the head with his mal so he wasn't too pleased, but he apologized and the dude was cool after that. Ended up partying with them at one of the bars on NYE - good bunch (see the pics).

surf shop and surf school, Unawatuna
Hello, My name is Rasika and I am 19 years old and just opened the first surf shop in Unawatuna. We offer lessons and board hire and sell a range of surfing accessories. Come and pop into 'Boardwise' on the Yaddemullah Road, Unawatuna and to get some surfing in and to see how we're getting on. Boardwise has opened with the intention of helping the surfers of unawatuna, many of which lost their jobs due to the 2004 tsunami.

great place
I surfed Unawatuna 10 years ago only by luck as it wasn't on the surf guide I was travelling with. I had 3 days of great 3ft waves and nobody out so I was a little perplexed. There were great places to stay and a super beach. I'm glad to hear people are getting there to surf and I really recommend it.
