Take it easy at Easybeach - Fantastic place, stay with Oystein at Easybeach less that 5 minutes away from the rock.Enjoy the culture and frienly nature of SriLankans. Off season it is not worth the effort if you are purely going to surf, ok for mix of touring and surf, mostly onshore and big, there are a couple of spots that Oystein knows where shelter offers big clean waves. Can't wait to return

Staying at the rock.. - Chilled place to stay, across the road, 'Kabalana Villa' sleeps 6, wave view from balcony...check it out...http://www.rentalsystems.com/villas/south-coast-villa-to-rent-24426-sum.asp?rag=29135R&rcam=ownerweb

- kabbalana's a bit pricey for 'skint' surfer types stay at rams in middigamma and tuktuk there...loads cheaper...but i agree on the wave its amazing.........

Great spot on its day. - I've been surfing for over twenty five years and I visited "The Rock' in April 2004 and it went down as the best surf trip of my life. I have surfed a lot of different places over the years but as far as wave quality, consistency and minimal crowd goes, this place was unreal. Double overhead for ten days, off-shore and no more than 8 blokes in the water. Maybe I was lucky, I don't know. Definately worth a look between Nov. and April. We stayed at the Kabbana Hotel.Marty.

- its like anywhere on the planet....ive spent many months in this area and about half of the time this spot rocks...and if you struggle to get waves to yourself, you just simply shouldnt be out there, as ive hardly ever been dropped in on here..so just get yourself in the right spot!....very long wave with barrels to be had...hik is much more crowded and full of israli nobs...

- Average wave at best, dont know what the hype is about, main reef at hikkaduwa is much better, localism and mass crowds turning up is a real problem especially during dec and jan

- rubbish wave small and messy most of the time, becoming very busy with some serious localism. nothing else to do out of the water, dont bother!

Ratna is fine - Hey all, spent some time here in feb and march. Stayed at ratnas new guest house the seven sky. He has managed to rebuild since the tsunami and treated my friends and I like a king. If you can show your support to these people and go over, help people come back to reality and show them its not going to stop us surfers from going to visit the friends we meet on journeys.

Ratrna - Hey Gary , last I seen Ratna was on the 27 of dec 05 he was loking after his guests at his house near the railway line. He built a guest house on the beach. He had some damage but nothing compared to many others. Regards Owen
