Sri Lankan Paradise - Yes folks this place is good. So many unsurfed, un-named spots it's ridiculous. I surfed 7 right hand point breaks for 2 months on the east coast and there are probably 100 more (judging from the nautical maps). Of course it never gets above 4 feet overhead, and usually doesn't barrel, but it's far better than most waves in California and the water is 85 degrees. Access is a bitch, but then again no one is there. ABay is popular for sure, but when I was there only 30 people were surfing on the east coast during prime season. I was begging people to go surfing with me. Don't be like the rest of the guys from Israel who come there in a pack of 10 and sit in one spot and surf one wave. Walk, get in a tuktuk...see the world without the crowds. Your main issue in Sri Lanka is getting from the airport to the surf. If you survive this, all is good. Don't read the newpaper on the way, you'll see too many listings of people killed in horrible traffic accidents because they can drive worth shit.

Surfing in Ahangama, Midigama area - More south of Hikkaduwa are great waves as well. Midigama is very popular with surfers. There are about 5 breaks in the area. I am managing some guest houses there and I organize surf tours.
