just got back from a surf trip in sri lanka. small waves and agro locals. probably not the best place for good surf... but still an experience. dont go expecting indo style waves

Just wanted to say that I surfed in Sri Lanka Dec 2008 and met Chaminda there. I didn't pay him as a surf guide or anything, just met him on the beach and he was one of the friendliest guys around. Hikkaduwa was a great location and the locals I met were the friendliest I've ever met.

Going to Sri Lanka In august
Myself and my bro have a week, and are thinking of flying from KL to Sri Lanka (Colombo) for a week to surf a see the sites at the end of August. Any recomondations on where to stay and go at that time of year ? Thanks.

Don't go to Sri Lanka!
Don't eat at 'Funky De Bar' as they get chicken bones out the bin, cover in batter and serve as a meal!
Sure Sri Lanka's W,S,SW beaches get consistant swell, with only 3 non-surfable days within 2months... But the set-ups are all wrong, it lacks quality & is definitely non comparable to Indo. Hikkaduwa is the most hostile place I've ever surfed!
Everyone will try and rob you at treble the price for tourists. If you are female with blonde hair, be-careful as you will get attention from the locals whether you like it or not!
