Baler is easy to get to now I see most people here have not been to baler recently... the last comment was correct you could get to baler in 3 to 4 hours. Rough road's gone. I know a surfer there who is quite known everywhere. His name is OKOY and he owns a surf shop right at the sabang beach break called the Mahdox Surf Shop. Google them. He's the best person to talk to. and a very nice guy. I believe he's a sponsored rider of Ripcurl.

Baler Adveture It's a long and bumpy ride to get to Baler, Aurora. It would take you more or less 8 hours. They are often hit by storms that's why they are blessed with consistent waves, like Daet. Sabang Beach is ideal for beginners. Cemento Reef, on the other hand, is strictly for experienced surfers or for the "kamikazees". Nonetheless, Baler is a surfing paradise. The locals at first are very aloof, but once you get to know them, everything would be alright. They speak Tagalog purely, and you'll find words that are amusing. Surf boards are difficult to find, though. Rentals aren't usually available because even the locals themselves, lack resources. Nevertheless, the natives are really talented surfers. They possess such world-class talents. However, the grommets (real young surfers) are intimidating! They could paddle faster! But lo and behold, Baler is worth the 8-hour bumpy ride. Just make sure that you don't lose your board on your way there:).

Its a trek I thought I read somewhere that the ride from Manilla to Baler is 3-4 hours, but it is in fact 6-8 hours, even in a private car. An SUV is ideal for the many bumpy roads. Once in Baler, the beach break is pretty fun, but not very powerfull. You need to take a tricycle "taxi" to the better breaks. Ask around where the best breaks are and the locals will point you in the right direction. If you can spare some surf supplies (wax, leashes, shorts, etc), the locals will appreciate it.

beautiful Lots of poverty and thieves because of it. The country and the trip from manilla is scary and beautiful with mountain roads and insane bus drivers. A few minutes on the bus and my pocket was almost emptied by an amateur. Oh well...Take a couple of friends everywhere you go and things should be ok....most of the people are pretty damn nice. Got some fair waves in january but nothing special...Glad i went but wouldnt go again.

Danny Sanchez Baler Local Danny Sanchez is a well educated chap who loves his chickens. You can stay there on the smell of an oily rag and he even has a little shop. His stories of Aquatic creatures will enthrall you!...talking snakes etc. Cementos is a ledging right reef, get a mototaxi from the beachfront at Baler and ask the dude to wait while you surf. The phlips rulz! Am I right?

Rich Country, poor people have travelled around the World, seen unbelievable places, met great people accross the globe that became brothers/sisters.What disturb me is the third world country Philippines.I am hearing a lot of negative vibes, Wars, terrorism, etc. Met a great Filipino surfer (his name is Cata) telling me all the misconception regarsding the country. i had a few moments to study the History and Culture of this country and was very surprised on how this people fought and wins their freedom through the span of time, during spanish colonization. (the phrase "Pen is mightier than the sword" was proven by One of there national heroes, Rizal.nways, what sad is the present condition of this people who are the victim of poverty due to Political corruption!!if you visit the City like Makati, you will notice that people are devided, 90% of young people are focusing on unimportant matters trying to reach that 'Westernized Culture'the 'Whats In', 'Whats out' Bullshit.not realising how deep the hole their less priviledged brothers are burried in poverty. just saw a local news clip a few days ago where 3street children died of food poisoning because the food they got from a restaurants trash was too rotten to be eaten. (Damn...i thought only stray cats does that)nways if youve been to the country, try to observe that it has all the Potential of being out from a Third World.Philippines has 7200+ Islands, perfect tropical weather, breathtaking beaches, world class surf spots, unspoiled forest reefs, hospitable locals. they have all the fruits and vegetables thats available in the World and have fruits that u can only find in the land.Rich in Culture, Have Oil reserves, great Artists, Musicians you name it this Country f*ckin has it. the fucking problem with the Philippine country are the F*#KIN corrupt politicians, these are the terrorist for this beautiful land. Just sad, i think the citezens run out of gas fighting what this country deserves. Still the richest country ive seen...
