Jeju Island (South Korea) is one-hour flight from Seoul. Jeju is a volcanic island that has kept traditional Korean cultural identity in houses and lifestyle. Most beaches are made of black lava stones; some are sand covered. Jeju is renown for Stones, Winds and Women. Lava stones are pilled on the ocean-side roads as wishing-good-luck monuments. Winds are often strong and can change directions many times during the day. Women are diving to catch seafood / shellfish and selling them on the roadsides. You can see them getting out of a small creek with in wetsuit and goggles! Surfing wise, according to locals, Jeju is popular to Japanese surfers during the rain season (June) and summer. Swells are generated by depression on the Yellow China Sea. Swells are short (2 days) but frequent (every 3-4 days) during the rain season.
Fisherman Village is in the south of the Island. It’s between the Jeju convention center and Paradise water fall. The spot is in front of Fisherman Village, but you need to drive to the Jetty and walk left (East) down the rocks to get there.
Haven’t seen anybody surfing there, but the wave looks decent (see pictures). The Left can be hairy as you end up near the jetty. The Right has no obstacle. Can be surfed only at low tide.

Hi darcvader, just wondering how you manage a quick fix down at jeju island? "Too fast" you say, hmmmm...sounds like a challenge. Would like to find out more.

keep dreaming
Hi, I've lived here on Jejudo for seven years just about. Grew up in Santa Cruz and Big Sur and have been surfing since 1984. Fisherman Village? hmmm...well, somebody has an active imagination! Sure, during typhoon swells long lines do pour onto the reef there, and I've seen it barreling heavily, but no one surfs there coz it's just too fast. I suppose Slater could ace it.

a hoax
Hi, I've lived on Jejudo for almost seven years and have searched every nook and cranny of this island for decent waves. Me and my best friend here are the only surfers who consistently surf the bigger reef breaks when the swell gets big. Have been surfing since 1984 and grew up on the Central Coast of California, ie. Big Sur and Santa Cruz. Believe me, the waves on Jeju are for the most part very, very inconsistent. Occasionally we'll get some excellent, powerful surf, and there are a couple of fine, thick reef breaks around the south coast, but all in all the waves here are mediocre. And the 'locals'-- I mean the Koreans who've just learned to stand up and wag their asses in the air-- well, they are dicks. I've known 'em all since they began surfing here and now they think they own Jungmun beach. They have a shack on the beach called the 'Wave Club'. It's so pathetic, so sad-- give a guy a patch of sand and he'll sprout an ego to plant on it. Save your money and time and go elsewhere if you want to find good surf.
