trying to build a surfboard
my name is True. i am not even a beginner, i just surfed twice in the west coast. i lived in Nebraska for 7 yrs, yeah not a place for anyone likes water sports, anyways. I am back to Korea(where i am from) and trying to build a surfboard. It's not I can't buy one in Korea, i just wanted to build my own. i kinda figured it's not worth it. however. I was wondering if there's anyone who could give some insights of surfboard construction, maybe someone was in the industry or knowledgeable. I built two replicas for testing and i made one shortboard and it's waiting for leash plug and fin box. if anyone willing to help me, that would be so great. truepark@gmail.com (my email) i live near pusan. thanks .

Kyungpodae beach
right off the main beachside road, there were lefts and rights firing off the jetty in May. But, no board, no wetsuit (what are water temps here? At Haeundae? At Jungmun beach?)

There are waves
While not very consistant and somewhat far from cities, there are waves to be had on both the west and east coast. If in Korea during anytime but monsoon season, give me a all to hook up and maybe surf. Songtan/Pyeontaek area. 01066967241

Looking to make a road trip
Hey all. Moved to South Korea with my family from Hawaii about six months ago. Couldn't bring my longboard but have a bodyboard. Pretty much jonesing to get in the water when it warms up a bit. I’m looking for other surfers or body boarders that may want to put together a road-trip or something. I know the surf here ain’t great but anything would be nice. Give me a holler if interested.

contact info
hey anyone that lives on cheju and has a surfboard or two, i will be there in three weeks and wanted to see if you would be willing to rent me some gear for a day or two. i will make it worth your while! i am there visiting my family (in seoul) from the states, am an avid snowboarder, wakeboarder, and surfed a couple years in florida. i ensure you i won't be the krazy korean dropping in on people. we'll be staying in jungmun and are down for kicking it too, so any good info on hanging would be much appreciated! i'll definitely buy you a beer. thaks!

good luck
Have been surfing for over 22 years now and have lived on Jejudo (in Seogwipo, on the south coast) since March,2000. Rest assured, I have thoroughly explored Jeju's coast-- under almost every possible swell/wind combo and tide. The surf here can get good-- very good. But believe me, it's SUPER RARE. I mean, really, really rare. Even when a sweet, fat typhoon rolls up from down near Guam, there's no guarentee that the waves will work anywhere on the coast. So many times I've dawned it and found beautiful, long lines lighting up the coast, only to end up driving in vain for hours searching for a rideable wave. There are only a handful of semi-decent spots on the entire island and all of them are extremely fickle. The most consistent is Jungmun-- I mean, it has the most consistent slop and rarely has any shape at all. And, as recently more and more Koreans have bought boards and proclaimed themselves Princes of the Sandbox (ie, the zoo that is known as Jungmun beach), the vibe isn't very mellow anymore. When I arrived here almost seven years ago, there were perhaps 2 or three surfers-- me, my friend and one other fella. Now, even on a 1 foot slop day it's a zoo, with all these guys that have no clue how to surf out in the water, trying to impress their buddies and girlfriends by wiggling their butts. The Korean surfers are extremely insecure about foreign surfers. It's a shame, too, because a good buddy of mine pulled two drowning tourists out of the water last summer at Jungmun, then early this summer he got dropped-in on and attacked by a Korean guy he'd known for two years. The Korean guy just amped-out and snapped. Too much shitty beer in his gut I guess. I wrote a five-page letter to the 'Wave Club'(which is where all the wannabes hangout) , simply trying to politely introduce them to the concept of not dropping-in. Believe me, I tried to be diplomatic and will continue to make every effort to surf in peace with these guys, but a lot of 'em are racist meatheads. Some of 'em are cool-- you just gotta pay tribute to 'em with ginseng, gold, jade, hawks and women. But don't worry too much-- if you can actually surf and the waves get big enough here on a decent swell, the Korean guys will only very rarely venture away from Jungmun. None of them is good enough to surf powerful, hollow surf...they may paddle out and get in the way, but that's about it.
Anyway, there are a few powerful reef breaks dotted around the island. As I mentioned, they are very fickle but occasionally very good.
BUT, the real story about Jeju is there's a lot of coastline and very little swell and very little quality.
Anything you hear to the contrary is total bullshit.

If you like saddle time, ie. driving around and wasting money on gas, or if you like surfing schlop with wannabes, then come on over-- Jeju is a surfing paradise. See ya soon...
