Let's go get some surf - Looking for someone to surf with. I just got to Misawa and am looking for some surf friends. I have been surfing for about 20 years off and on. I have surfed around the world and speak Japanese. Hit me up no matter you skill level...lets just surf.
338 Park - Is there anyone in the area that can teach me to surf at this spot? I use a rental from the rec center.
- Yea, for another year.
- You still in japan now?
Surf in Misawa - I've been trying to get a hold of a chapter here with no luck. I've been here a couple years and know some good spots. let me know if you want to check them out.
hmso? - Is the HMSO still around in the Misawa area? I have been trying to get ahold of someone but, no luck.
There are 3 or 4 spots... - within 15 minutes of base and a bunch more down south of Hachinohe and many more up north along the Pacific. There is now a surf club on base so this will be a good place for you to start. Lots of local info in the club. Do a google search for "Hawaii Military Surfing Ohana Japan" for more info and contacts. Hope you ski or board too - we get buttloads of snow around here but a few of us diehards surf year round also.
distance - how far is veedol beach from the u.s. base? i'm headed their for deployment next year and doing my homework now on places to surf in that area. Thanks.
This IS a great spot - There is a little confusion with the local American population. This wave is at Misawa Port or otherwise known as "Misawa Veedol Beach". Up the coast about 15km is another Veedol - "Miss Veedol Beach" which is nothing in comparison to the port. I have seen this wave absolutely epic with strong offshores and 14' faces. If you are a goofyfoot, you will love this wave. If the swell has any north in it, there is an awesome rip along the jetty that works almost like a ski lift for surfing. If the winds are offshore, it can be 'crowded' for N. Japan. 15 people max, but the takeoff point for the best wave can be narrow. It will also reform and break inside if you want to get away from the crowd. A truely great wave for this area.
