It's easy: you only have to paddle out because there is a current from Lagundri to there. In 1 minute from a deepwater chanel you would be in the wave and there is the Lagundri Surf Camp near. Watch out for a tuff paddle back to the line up as there will be a strong current working against you. There are two good places to eat right off the reef and plenty of places to stay. Try Nelly's, you'll love it.
99 kicked ass cause there were no aussies due to indos bad sentiment concerning east timor involvement. lagundri had local kids only for almost a week and one guy from bangkok and me... and one kook. More...
Lagundri 10 years ago...
I spent 3 weeks in Lagundri in sept 99. The surf was at least overhead every single day and we had a few 10712 foot days. The wave deserves its reputation. A LOT of power but quite an easy drop and a lot of water underneath, unlike the typical indo wave Lagundri is not a shallow bottom. A lot of aussie surfers but the wave broke 24/7 so you could choose your time.
I stayed with a friendly family who charged the equivalent of 20 cents a night for the losmen (you were expected to eat were you stayed, that s how they made a bit of money). A lot of hassling and weird vibe from a few locals. I remember it as an incredible surfing experience but as the least friendly surftrip I ve done, strange place....
