the sleeper If this wave broke at solid 6-8 feet more often, it would be recognised as one of the best waves in the world. But it only breaks above 4 feet high, when it gets really good, about 20 or so days a year. I saw a guy get a triple overhead wave here with 3 very deep pipeline-like barrel sections that were long and perfect. One of the best waves I have ever seen at 6-8 feet and a light SE wind.

rimjobs are sweet intense crowds, but if u hook it up ya can get barrled the length of the reef and boost of the end bowl.

teles got back a couple of weeks ago and the first morning it was absoluty perfect,5 foot and barreling..one down side it that the current is intense and it keeps trying to drag you away from the main take off spot..and oh yeah..its was a zoo..we had it to ourselves for about 30 mins in the mornig and by the afternoon there was about 30 people out..

read this, it's time you go to the mentawais telescope's with nobody out? It can happen. Come in the winter, it's cold where you live, come to somewhere warm...there are still better waves here than your home break!! Want to go and try some lesser known places? They're still out there! Name your place, price and time...no joke.

David Beckham Is this a good wave for a beginner. I'd like to bring my wife and kids. How far is the beach??

Board Eater!! This was our first location we arrived at after 30 hours of travelling. Sunrise showed a few feet overhead-by lunch it was triple overhead for the rest of the day. The third wave on my brand new Campbell Brothers Bonzer 5 fin was a filthy sneaker set that ended our bonding experience (after a 3 month wait-yikes!!!). An amazing wave/setup. Very easy, long paddle backs due to the wrapping reef pass.Every wave was two footbal fields or more.Do not get caught inside.

Still worth it. Go by land, its cheaper and culturally insane. Crowds are tolerable there is no shit in the water, awesome vibe and 6 second stand up pits. Want to know more? Go. Dont take a charter either if you only have a few hundred bucks for spending, its all you need for a few weeks!

go late go later in the season, we went in september got the biggest swell of the year and it wasnt to crowded.the most crowd i had to deal with was at burger world and that was before the swelll hit. Im definately going back to the mentawais its to perfect not to. the crowds are just another factor in the equation you can either whinge about it or go surfing. Mind you where im from we have the most crowded wave on earth so my opinion maybe a little wacked.

Heavy Like most Indo waves, it is powerful. Getting drilled on the inside of Telescopes by 6 foot waves is quite intense. And when I surfed it there were 30 guys out including pros.

Ultra Crowded Gotta enjoy paying $100 plus US per day for the privelige of surfing with 20 to 30 others........This is the norm in the Mentawiis, NOT the exception.
