Fly to Sanya airport.This is the airport at the southern tip of Hainan Island. If you are staying at the golf club they will drive you from the airport to the club for 400 yuan ( about $50.00 US ) The drive takes 1.5 hours going north but 2 hours going south ( the highway is only partially completed going south )

Im living in haikou and was wondering about directions to ocean bay resort if anyone knows please...where do you turn off heading south from haikou to sanya

This break has plenty of potential and the nearby coast is largely open for the more adventurous .The golf club can provide accommodation at around US $50 a night for a non ocean view room . Meals are all chinese food , naturally , and the menu is a bit limited but there should be an english translation ( I did it ! last december ). You can have 3 meals a day for $US 15. Breakfast was egg sandwichs and coffee (instant only )Meals are rice , a soup, some kimchi , vegetables and a meat dish. I include all this information because the golf club is the only place to eat unless you want to hire a car and drive for 15-20 minutes to the nearby hotspring resort hotels. There is also a sea food restaurant at the entrance to the golf club. Very simple but the food should be OK.The main point is roght in front of the gold club . It can break for 150-300 metres . There is a mushy left further in which can go for 400 yards but it is a fat shapelss wave ( when I saw it ) Down the beach near the seafood restaurant there is a right , it is surfable on small days . Once you get away from the point there is a pretty strong sweep which pulls you down the coast . If you try to surf the right on a bigger day , you will have to spend all your time paddling just to stay in the line up. Around the coast from the main point is another break. This is a deep water break running along the point. If you walk around the main point the next beach is easy to find. Go past the 13th hole tee off and keep going till you see 2 derelict huts. You can paddle out from the beach.This is a great wave also , goes about 150-200 meters. When the point is too tough to get out at this break is surfable.I mention this because when I was there in December the waves were continuous. No joke just continuous waves at 6-8 feet. I want in off the rocks at the main point and cracked out a fin , the rocks are covered on black slippery slime so take it carefully. I was fed up trying to paddle against the sweep so I would go in off the rocks but fell in every time!I would also recommend you take booties. There is a lot of glass and coral around , it isn't everywhere but this an isolated place if you were to get a serious cut.I also ended up with numerous scraps and snmall cuts from stepping on the sand bar at the main point.This is a great place to go surfing. There probably won't be anyone else out the whole time you are there and the surf is good and sometimes great..
