Characteristics
J-bay is probably Africas most famous surf spot. The J-Bay area has a stunning amout of surf, good swell and an active surfing population. Fame brings crowds - but don't let that put you off - this is the real-thing

One such event is the Billabong Pro, where local and international surfers converge in the ultimate challenge, which is the halfway point of the ASP World Tour, to rank the world’s number one male surfing champion. Be sure to visit the Shell Museum to experience some of the magnificent diversity gleaned from the South African coastline. Jeffrey's Bay provides travellers with an ideal based from which to explore the enchanting east coast of South Africa.

low tide, good swell
The swell was building, having dropped off after the BongofbillsPro.  The water was noticibly colder today but still fine in a 3/2.  I got worked by a wave after about 20 minutes and my back started blocking and twinging - otherwise I'

tale of two halves
Started surfing about 100m up from 'the point' towards impossibles - got a few nice waves and a couple of closeouts - then either the tide was changing or I was out of position because for ages I didn't get any waves.  I eventually p

wrong place..
Not knowing JBay we went in in the middle of Impossibles - and surprise surprise, found the waves really hard to catch for a couple of unfit lame-ass weekend warriors.... we eventually worked our way down to the point and finally had some fun waves

Just came back from JBay and found very nice people in the water. The first day I surfed, a local surfer show me the channel to go in and out, better know it if you don't wanna be stuck on sharping mussels rocks..
This place is cool in comparaison with other top spots I ve been. I live on Reunion Island and surfers are not so friendly in St Leu for example. Any way, if you are cool in the water it s most likely that locals will be. Great wave, great scenery and great people in Jbay. Go to wax cafe for great food.

Still cooking
J Bay is still cooking. 4-8ft waves have been coming thru every day for almost 2 weeks.
Also Aloha Afrika Backpackers is the place to stay.
Been getting some sick photos.
