 Cape South Coast

South Africa

Only one of the most beautiful parts of this amazing country... oh and the surfs good too. This part is actually known as the SOUTH COAST and not the Garden route, the garden route starts at around Mossel Bay. The SOUTH COAST has some classic spots with very consistenet surf aswell.

[[ The following information applies to the KZN south coast (or Hibiscus Coast), not the Cape south coast: A 70 mile coastline from Durban to Port Edward has the most consistent, Indian Ocean warm water experience. Prevailing wind in winter is South West, bringing big powerful waves. Summer has fun, fitness style waves. Most popular spots are Scottburgh, Banana Beach, Margate, St Michaels on Sea, Uvongo and Ramsgate all with right hand point break, all within a 40 mile stretch of great driving roads. Lucien and Shark's point have amazing left point breaks. ]]

Sometimes better known for its classic righthand pointbreaks is Stillbay in the Eastern Cape, you dont have to travel too far from one spot to another to find something good. Many famous beachbreaks, reefbreaks etc and the water is considerably warmer than Capetown. You'll find plenty of holiday spots, mostly for Afrikaans people so accomodation is no problem but a 4x4 will help for dust roads and getting to some points. During summer holidays (Dec - Feb) a few well known spots will be crowded but the rest of the year, which has bigger swell, its pretty much empty besides a few locals. There is a large part of´'undiscovered' surf territory aswell which are known for a couple of gems which turn on regularly. Beautiful coastline and friendly people, South Africa is one of the worlds most surf spoiled countries.

You guys are wrong. - You guys are wrong. This region is not the Garden Route! The Garden Route starts at Mossel Bay and ends at Storms River area. So, the George Region is actual The Garden Route. Someone must correct this mistake.

Boycott Continental Iberia Delat United and KLM. - Please all surfers listen!!!! We must act now, it's getting worst, airlines now even embargo surfboard. Try to convice any one you can to boycott (stop using) those airlines. See: http://www.surftrip.net/step3/newsold1.htm

Best breaks in the world. - outstanding surf, great wine, food and some of the most beautiful country in the world. Friendly too. Based myself in mossel bay with friendzsurf tours. They made it very easy to get outstanding surf. Several breaks which work over different aspects. Check the season. Good thing with friendzsurf is that they know this area real well, they are cheap and they are exactly as the name suggests. check out the site at www.friendzsurf.com
