Avalanche Access
Head out of Port Elizabeth along the road to Schoenmakerskop. Turn left into the Something Good Roadhouse. This is well sigposted. As you enter the large parking spot, the break is on your left hand side. The Summerstrand Surf-Lifesaving Club is at the opposite end of the car park with the roadhouse in the middle.

Additional Surfing Infos
On a big day the take-off is beyond a rock ledge that looks more daunting than it actually is. A hectic take-off leads into a good ride that ends in a little cove. Watch out for fishermen's lines as they can be a problem. On smaller days the wave can be sluggish but the winter swell can really crank.
  Overview
Atmosphere I have always enjoyed this spot as when Algoa Bay decides to break there is always a mad hussle for uncrowded spots. Avalanche can sometimes escape these crowds as it is not the first spot along the bay. Never had a hassle in the water as it seems to attract an "older" crowd. When it works, it must rank as the best wave in the bay.
General Fickle, but when it works big green walls march into the tiny cove. Very cool!

It's still a fun spot
This place really is so much fun, even on small days. Surfed it for three weeks straight over Christmas. The wave always starts and finishes in the same place. There's nothing like consistency for having fun and improving your surfing!

yea avos bock baby!
been a local at the spot for bout 10, must say its gone a bit down since then! enen on low tide, still slow on mid section, guess the sand bank is too deep nowadays and does'nt really hit it hard behind the rock anymore. still better than most tho!

Avo's rocks
Avo's has been rocking the past month, any surfer in and around PE should do themselves a favour and check it out, for example today (20th July 05) it was almost as mig as June 17th 05 i.e. roughly 4 to 6ft and cranking
