 Additional Information

Watch out for the ski-boats when ending off. In smaller swell you finish right in the mouth. The rumour is that the river mouth is a hammerhead breeding site but I never saw one in seven years of surfing tis spot. As you drive down to the parking lot (by the hotel) you come over the hill and can get a breathtaking view of the reef spread out in front of you. It is rated for all surfers but obviously when it gets big you should know what you are doing. Of course, respect the locals...

Atmosphere

This place pumps with bigger swell. It can break far out into the bay and can be a long ride. Be ready for a long paddle when the swell is big. This is one of the few left breaking spots in the East London area.

aah gonubie lefts - what can i say grew up surfing the lefts in 80's early 90's failed std 9 because of it needs a light west wind and huge swell then you pick it up in the middel of the ocean on days like this rides exceed 150m try and surf on outgoing tide makes paddling out easy using river flow to help watch out for deep sea boats not a big problem surfed their with my brother Kent wayne monk ET gordon chinn best wave in gonubie for us goofy footers
