SA Waves overated (with stars)
Just another spot that gets 5 stars and "totally epic in the top 30". Comments like "really good on it's day" - jeez, the same could be said for just about anywhere. It's time you SA crew got out and about a bit more. 5 stars - bullshit!!

what the ???
first off are we all talking about the same place gremmies has never in its life been world class. its a fun wave at most I worked the beaches there for many years and was down there most days so to say it is infested with bull sharks well quite frankley its bull.
definitly a place for a bit of fun but give it a good size swell and thats game over. oh and the guy that drowned did so in four foot.

Epic
I too have been surfing here, Toti, for over 13 years. Gremmies is the jewel of the KZN South Coast. I was out surfing there on my mini-mal 4 years ago when a fellow surfer drowned in the double overhead surf. So to say it can't handle the size would be to do this slice of heaven a great injustice.
The locals can be a bit heavy, obviously to protect the spot from rapist comercial photo hogs that would crowd the line-up and steal away the spots soul.
A truely epic spot, but stay away if you like your limbs attached to your body and don't enjoy driving away on flat tires with scratches in your cars paintwork.

Psh!
I have lived in 'Toti for 20 years and have been surfing here for 13 of them. To call Gremmies a 5 star wave shocks me to the point of disbelief. Sure...I have seen it going ballistic but hit this place with any swell over double overhead and it wont handle it. It does have a 180 degree ability to take swell...but so does the rest of a part of coastline stretching over 10 km's. 3 stars...max.

Crazy but good waves
This has been a secret spot for years that the town clowns of New Pier never even dreamt existed!! So the secret is out. Nice one...this spot is nearly as heavy for sharks as sharks alley! I have been speer fishing and cray fishing this area for many years and occasionally surfed it on exceptional days. Take this warning, do not surf it unless it is absolutely perfect and the water is crystal clean - only winter months. There is an infestation of Zambezi Sharks (Also called bull sharks) and they attack in dirty water. This area is also notorious for big submarine great whites within the speer fishing community.
