Mauritius so beautiful....Mauritian white shorts so bad
I just want to advise people who are planning to visit mauritius for surf...
I'have been there for 2 weeks, first day in Tamarin I have surfed for one hour with cool locals when an old blonde man whith blu eyes (some guys told me his fucking name is BRUNO, but i'm not sure????) ordered me to go out and punched my friend whitout any reasons. We were surfing in peace, no problems with the others..
Another day in One eye, another white man didn't let us to surf, so we went out again...
I have surfed many places all over the word, France, Portugal, Morocco, Canary island, Brazil, Indonesia and so on..I have never seen something like that. I can understand localism when foreign people do not respect..but not in this way... Surf is another thing..
I travel for surf, I will never be back in your beautiful island because of some hangry stupid locals and I will never advise a friend to go there for surf...
So please, (I'm speaking to all other mauritian surfers ) do not let that stupid, hangry locals destroy the image your island

i agree !
I certainly agree, apart from tamrin bay which breaks occasionally, the other spots are way overated if you're from SA !!

i certainly wouldn't put one eye in the "world class" catagory. its an average wave but its pretty consistent and gets a fair amount of swell. not worth travelling from australia to surf though.

my experience
I'm from South Africa and have been comming to this island (and reunion island) for the past 5 years. Some super nice waves but the breaks arent very regular, last year I spent 3 weeks there in winter and surfed only a couple of times, was quite pissed - but not the wife ! For sure the locals can be a real pain in the ass and I've seen them bully some guys off the spots, but if you dont paddle straigh to the top of the line up and piss them off you should be fine - so avoid weekends if you can, the locals fill the best spots quickly and it can get quite tense. But during the week only the black guys surf, they are cool because they want to get a board or anything they can off you, so you'll catch waves easily. Anyway If the swell is there you'll have a great time !!! (also try reunion its even better, more spots and more swell but also localism)

reply on info.
it is quite hard to describe where to paddle from..what you can do is ask any random kite surfer or windsurfer and he will point you the way. boats dont usually take you because they dont like being responsible for bringing you there. tides dont really matter, just if the tide is low you will be sure to ding your board while paddeling over the reef.and you should preferably not fall off a waves because you are like to hit coral..ummm..looking from the beach ,on the right side of the spot there is the current that goes out to sea..try not going into it.fairly often the waves work well but there is no1 else out.so it would be advised taking someone with you........for the wife i guess the beach is nice to be on otherwise the hotel etc.. thats about all i cant tell you..if you want more info just email me.goodluck

Looking for some info on "one eye"
There's a dive center at the hotel les Pavillons (next to Berjaya hotel)own by some really friendly locals (some of them are surfers).Ask for Allan or anyone else, they'll give you some good tips. By the way , Le Morne, well the south/south west area of the island is a very good choice, one of the few "not too crowded" area left in Mauritius.Great people and anwsome food !!

looking for some info on 'one eye'
heading out to Le Mourne in 3 weeks and was looking for info on where to get a boat out to the line up or where to start paddling from to get out to the line-up?
are the rips bad and what stage of tide does it start to get sketchy?
ps is there any good things for the wife to do while I surf, to keep domestics at a minimum?
