Its 6AM ... 75 F ... no wind ... the sun is low on the horizon producing an eerie orange and yellow halo effect reflecting off the coastal fog. Seal Beach, California, hard to see the end of the pier, looks clean and uncrowded, any waves ... Oh Yeah, chest to overhead peaks ... where did they come from, southern hemi swell not due until tomorrow morning, supposed to be fading NW?

Conditions were perfect with the incoming push from a 10AM high tide. Caught not one, but two epic waves ... late take off's on the wrong side of monster peaks against the sea wall, just sneaking under and though them board flying, hanging on by one 3" side bite and a couple of feet of down rail, into the barrel ... swoosh ... down the line, spat out onto a long glass wall!

Not all fun, fun, fun, the fog got so thick for an hour or so the sets just seemed to jump up out of nowhere. Took off on a first set wave, bad idea, blew me through into the channel between the left hander 'Harvey Wallbanger's' off the break wall and the suicide rights (into the pier) from the middle sandbank then sucked up and Niagara Falls body slammed me into the shallow impact zone. My leash held me down forever trying to drown my butt then wave after wave pounded on me. I could not see the beach, could not see the pier, getting worked hard, caught in a washing machine of swirling currents, the only way I knew which way was which, was the sea of white water pushing towards shore!

Harvey Wallbanger
1 oz Grey Goose® Vodka
1/2 oz Galliano® Herbal liqueur
4 oz Orange juice
Pour vodka and fresh squeezed orange juice into a tall Collins glass over ice cubes and stir. Float Galliano on top and serve with a sprig of mint and twist of orange peel

Add salt, Celery salt, ground black pepper and cayenne pepper, stir gently. Pinch of pure horseradish, garnish with Celery stick and lemon wedge.
One of my favourites, if made right. Glass needs to be frosty and lightly rimmed with salt also add carrot sticks and small pitted black olives.
Went out again this morning, nowhere near as good, slight onshore eddy adding bump. Bigger than yesterday with some monster "hero" sets but walled out. My second wave got caught in the suckup refraction off the breakwall on takeoff, bottom fell out and got thumped good, only made a few this morning.
Pour one ounce of Absinthe X Zele into a Pontarlier glass over which a silver Absinthe slotted spoon is placed. A sugar cube is then deposited in the bowl of the spoon. Ice-cold water is poured over the sugar until the drink is diluted to a ratio of 3:1.
3/4 ounce Malibu rum 1/2 ounce Bols Blue Curacao 3 ounces Pineapple juice
Combine all ingredients with ice, shake well, then pour into a hurricane glass with the ice. For garnish score pineapple and orange slices with a knife and insert onto rim of glass add cocktail umbrella to spear maraschino cherry through center, crown with a Vanda orchid.
Some pretty clever work guys. Remember having a couple of "Blue Hawaii's" in Honolulu waiting for the flight to Maui. Got picked up by some friends at the airport who broke out the Maui Wowi on the drive into Lahaina. We checked out Honolua Bay, was actually going off by I was so wasted I didnt even have a clue where the hell I was!
