Trip: Working on the railroad ...Thursday February 18 2010 01:30:47 AM |
Date: from Feb 18, 2010 to Feb 18, 2010
Surf trip description:
Amtrak Surfliner that is. It was a beautiful morning in the hood (Long Beach) "Shots Fired" the other night. Dragged (Kansas City) John out of bed at dawn and headed down to Trestles, San Clemente. Arrived just after sun-up, parked on the side of the road by the Burger King and began the long trek. Talked to a guy coming up the trail, said it was really good!
The local rabbits and squirrels were already up as we walked under the railroad trestle to Uppers. Looked pretty good, light offshore breeze holding up chest to shoulder high peelers with the occasional head high set rolling through.

By the time we waded the creek and slogged down to Lowers, John was done. He watched me paddle out, shot one video of a Grommet on the inside and went to sleep! By 8 AM the crown thinned out until 9 AM, the next shift showed up.
Lowers is a perfect A-Frame peak that sucks up really fast on the shallow reef. Took a while to get it dialed in, then backsided the peak for a cover up on a nice set wave. As the tide came in, the lefts started to pump, you could bottom turn then do a Pinkie hand stall in the lip.
Stayed out till 10 AM, a caught a clean, head high, lefthander all the way to the beach on my last wave but twisted my ankle on the rocks getting out ... nurse, nurse it hurts!
