Surf trip description:

After all these years finally did my first surf vacation.  Costa Rica looked like a good place so I booked a week at Witch's Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo.  Just wake up get on the bus or the boat and they take you to the best waves that day.  Didn't want to have to think too much.  A skill I've been fine tuning for years.

Maybe beginners luck but man it couldn't have been better. Only one day the surf was small.  The rest was head, overhead, and bigger at some out of the way spots.  Lot of nice tubes too.  Long and short board places.  Just one morning it was crowded with the rest of the time take any wave you want and as many as you want.

One day of the tour was an all day trip to Witch's Rock and Ollie's point.  Made a long day but well worth it.  Surf wasn't epic but still great. Well overhead at Witch's.  Apparently have to hit the tide just right for these two spots.  Also apparently sea turtle mating season.  They were all over the place with big smiles on their faces.

Others in my tour were from CA, MA, OH, NY, Holland, and Colombia.  Everybody there for the same reason (surf not the turtle porn) so instant friends to hang with.

WRSC has it together too.  Friendly people that want you to have a good time, great food and drinks, rooms more than adequate.  Plenty of boards to choose from if you didn't bring your own.

Only one bummer.  Thought I'd be able to buy a throw away camera when I got there but none to be found.  I've since bought a camera to take with me the next time.  Also, don't bring any US cash larger than a $20.  Near impossible to get anything larger cashed unless you spend the whole thing. Did find a bank with an ATM and was able to get local money or US no problem.

Last night there some of us went out to celebrate.  Closed two nightclubs, Monkey Bar and Aqua for drinking and dancing.  The main road (only road) turns into a hangout and side walk to go from one club to the other.  A couple hundred or so locals just there to have a good time and glad you are there to have it with them. Brush up on your Salsa and Meringue.  If you've never been to a Salsa Club you're in for a time at Monkey Bar.  Two local bands switching off.  One Salsa and Meringue, the other techno reggae.  Got to tell you about one local girl at Monkey Bar.  She was wearing what was equivalent to two red rubber bands.  Gotta love those Latinas.  It's lucky some of you younger guys weren't there, you probably would have fainted when she started dancing.  Now how would that look?

As great as it was, I'm planning another trip but want to go further south to the Hermosa/Jaco area.  I've heard it has more nightlife and other stuff for those if you're bringing anybody with you that doesn't surf.  I don't have that problem; just want to try a different part of the country.  Looking to go maybe around Christmas or April 2010 or so.  Let me know if you have the inside track on that part of the country or if anyone is planning to go too.
