Surf trip description:
We flew from Cinn, OH to the Los Angeles airport, where we got delayed for 4 hours! Delta airlines gave us over $ 60.00 in food coupons, but it was really hard to gobble that much food between the four of us. We then flew to Honolulu and then on to Kona.
We stayed with my step-daughter in her condo near the Kona Beach, "cause she had an internship there. I found a neat surf spot called "Banyons" within a couple of miles, so each morning we were there, I put my rented 8" soft board(ugh) in the jeep and surfed there. Of course, the first day of surfing Banyons, the locals didn't want me to surf their "break". I told them I was from Cincinnati, surfing a rented surfboard in a break I had never surfed before!! He looked at me like I was crazy, then said, you can surf a few waves for us to see if you "aren't a kook" and after seeing that I could surf, they allowed me to surf Banyons each day for nearly two weeks!! I surfed 3-5 ft. glassy waves each morning, before the kids got up.
After my morning surf, I would go back and get the kids and then explore the "big" island. We went to the top of the tallest mountain there, looked through the telescopes, went to "green beach" and body surfed waves, explored Wapio(sp) Valley, toured the vocanoe activity at the beach, went to Hilo, saw the large Banyon trees, swam in naturally heated swimming pools, swam with dolphins, did cliff diving and over-all had a blast. We flew back through Honolulu and bought lots of tee shirts and other Hawaii items at the "Aloha Bowl", prior to our trip home. A fond memory.
