Date: from Aug 20, 2007 to Sep 3, 2007

Surf trip description:
Haven't been to portugal for over 5 years, now returning with kids - so it will be interesting to see how we can work around them and their totalitarian eating-sleeping regime. and my surfing.  I guess I'll hi the water whenever I can, irrespecive of conditions....  Anyway we are starting in the south and then jumping right up to Porto, hopefully coming back down to Lisboa via Peniche.  The August crowds will be interesting - having only been here out of season before.

Not a great time to go surfing - low tide, but a small peak was working in the middle of Baleal beach.... few people out so no problem getting waves - nice atmosphere with the sea mist and the glassy conditions - just a shame that the peak was poor (sine the tide was wrong.... still, didn't have any choice of when to surf today and was happy with what I got ;-)

Surf spot: Baleal Sul, Portugal

Surf Trip: Portugal ( 20 August 2007 - 03 September 2007)

Session's Rate:

Wind direction: No wind

Wind Strength: Glassy

Nb waves ridden: 20+

Length of the surf session: 1.45 min

Surfboard ridden: 8ft Hybrid RR

Fins: snapins

Weather and water temp: surprisingly warmm

Waves height: Less than 1m / 3ft

Waves Quality:
- Ordinary
- Fun

Waves Shape:
- Multipeaks

Description:

Walked down the beach to find the peak I had surfed the day before... had trouble finding it, as it was so misty. Still, paddelled in and had a small peak to myself, then when a bit warmed up drifted down to the 'main' peak - where there were about 8 people out. Fun session - got a lot of waves - some held a face almost to the beach. Most got too mushy after take-off. Met Nadia in the line up.

It was so misty at times you couldn't see the beach or the waves coming.. just sitting there bobbing around waiting for the sets and chatting. Nice. By 18h30 just the two of us out there, and nice high-tide peak working.

Surf spot: Lagide, Portugal

Surf Trip: Portugal ( 20 August 2007 - 03 September 2007)

Session's Rate:

Wind direction: Onshore

Wind Strength: Strong

Nb waves ridden: 7

Length of the surf session: 45min min

Surfboard ridden: 8ft hybrid RR

Fins: snapins

Weather and water temp: sunny, windy and a bit cool

Waves height: 1m-1.2m / 3ft-4ft

Waves Quality:
- Mushy
- Soft
- Bumpy

Waves Shape:
- One peak

Description:

Only about 6 people outon the peak, with very inconsistent mushy waves being blown hrough by a moderate onshore.  Still this was preferable to the ultra-soft waves being riden by a zillion longboarders on the south side o Baleal.....  Shame to not see Lagide iring, as its clearly a nice peak.  Swell is forecast to drop even further the next couple of days... ;-(

Nb waves ridden: 8

Length of the surf session: 1h15 min

Weather and water temp: sunny hot, cold water

Waves height: 1m-1.2m / 3ft-4ft

Waves Quality:
- Fun

Waves Shape:
- Multipeaks

Description:

Hardly anyone one out here when I arrived (late!) and had the choice of two peaks one either side of the direct accees to this beach.  I chose the northerly peak, as a surf-scholl was warming up on the beach near the southern one....

The peak was well formed on a sand-bar so the paddle out was easy.  Drifted down to the peak and caught a couple - it took me a while to get lined up right, as the sets (it was a samll day so the set waves were worth waiting for) peaked in a different place from the normal waves.  Some really fun waves fllowed with going through to the reform possible

Surf spot: Arrifana, Portugal

Surf Trip: Portugal ( 20 August 2007 - 03 September 2007)

Session's Rate:

Wind direction: Onshore

Wind Strength: Light

Nb waves ridden: 12

Length of the surf session: 1 min

Surfboard ridden: 8ft Hybrid RR

Fins: snapins

Weather and water temp: sunny but cold water

Waves height: Less than 1m / 3ft

Waves Quality:
- Soft
- Ordinary
- Fun

Waves Shape:
- Close out

Description:

Managed to park near the beach and planted the family... at Ariffana it was just the beach break that was working.  Small but quite ridable waves.  I picked an empty place in the line-up (its a long beach, and about half the surfers were august beginners so no really out beyond the whitewater).  Quickly got a series of waves, justabout time o stand up and ride a tiny section before closing out.  Then other surfers started mysteriously appeaing in my 'empty' area.  Stil, it was peaky with the waves breaking pretty randomly so everyone got some.  My shortie wetsuit did for me quickly, so i retired cold back to sandwiches full of sand, thanks kids.
