Description:
First time out at Topanga, tiny waves, but some fun on the sets, mix of longboarders and others, the quad fish proved easy for catching waves, even for an unfit old guy like me... Highlights were the dolphins swimming past (as I was getting suited up...) and the nice vibe in the water: people chatting, no aggro, made for a really nice session. Cool locals!

Beautiful late afternoon session, loads of people out, but by walking 200m up the beach found a spot with virtually no one out. It was breaking a bit all over the place, and there was no wind - glassy and smooth. In fact the only thing missing was the swell... tiny waves, with occasional sets that provided fun but small walls. Had a lot of fun without any effort :-)

Description:
Having missed some of the best waves in Israel for many years (I arrived the day after the swell - classic :-) this new swell was welcome. Totally flat the yesterday and nice 1-1.2m swell today. Sets had head-high faces - which was unexpected and nice - very fat waves. I rented a secondhand board for a couple of hours from Ultrawave in Hertzliya (nice guys) and had a ball. The north side of the marina was a bit smaller than south and further north but protected from the wind and made for nice waves. Crowded, but the waves broke all over the place so everyone could get something even despite goatboarders. at the end of the session a few paddle boarders came out and mostly struggled, but saw one great wave taken.

Description:
The swell was building, having dropped off after the BongofbillsPro. The water was noticibly colder today but still fine in a 3/2. I got worked by a wave after about 20 minutes and my back started blocking and twinging - otherwise I'd have stayed in longer.
The waves were big on the sets but happily were quite catchabale at the Point. Had 4 long rides down past the beach and onto the next section (150m-200m+).... and did a rare thing for me.... stopped the session on a great wave - didn't do that usual kak of paddling back out for 'one last wave'....
Forecast sites showed it being 12ft - which made for nice waves at Point and some pretty hectic rides at Supers (not me ;-). The next day showed the forecast of 21ft swell..... happy that I was about 900km inland by then.

I eventually paddled down to the point and caught smoe more waves - the swell was noticably increasing and I got worked by a couple of waves - I realised I was not fit enough and so gave up for the day ;-)

Padelled out alone, the swell had picked up overnight and so had the wind which was blowing pretty much cross-shore to onshore. ONlnset waves were really ridable, as there was just enough size to feel the potential of this spot. It must be great on a big swell. Low tide was about right today for some longish rides. a long board would have been better.

Description:
The best session of the vacation... rocked up early and it was overcast and gloomy and full low-tide, which didn't look good, as the peaks had been working best at mid-high tide.
One guy floundering in shallow water on a foamy, otherwise the breaks were deserted. We headed to the peak just to the left of the bach bars, which looked the most consistent. Once out we were not disappointed - it was bigger than it looked, and significantly bigger than yesterday's (small) surf - the set waves on the peak were shifting around - maybe two swell directions coming in? but the walls were dominantly lefts, which stated with good size take-offs (over head-hight on the face) and then opened into nice long faces - with rides of 70-100m
when gabe went in, I took the RR 8.6 and had fun - alone.
Middle of July in "crowded" peniche - and I was alone in the water!

The swell, as predicted has dropped off a lot, set waves were just about holding on a peak mid way down the beach. The wind felt the same as yesterday, but was messing up the waves much more. Caught a few waves, all mush burgers. Then moved down about 100m and sat on a small inside area catching 'reforms' (except there was no outside wave). Lots of take-off practice - all ending very quickly, grab rail into a close-out. Still, its good preactice for the weakest part of my surfing, the quick take-off.
Smaller surf forecast for tomorrow - my look and see if low tide will be better.

Found a nice peak, surfed with Gabriel - who got a fin-bash on his tricep putting him out for a day or two. The waves were holding up nicely - and considering the quite strong breeze, the surface was glassy. The wind was up on the dunes not much on the water. Several fun lefts and rights and then one memorable left, that held up a face all the way to the beach, where I got slammed. had to stop after an hour to get back for dinner with the kids. Shame, could have stayed out another hour at least

surprising nice waves considering I went in at 15h30, and it was starting to blow onshore. Big group of surfers up by the Baleal Spit, so I headed further south. There are many peaks along this beach so I got out where only two other guys were. No hassle for getting waves. After about 45 minutes a surf-school brought about 30+ to the same peak - so I drifted down to the next one and carried on surfing almost alone. Fun waves, ot powerful, not steep, but generally opened up right and sometimes left, giving easy conditions. Nice to feel that some of paddling on the lake these last few weeks has helped a bit with fitness ;-)

Took my board down to the lake - actually not at this exact 'spot' but about 5km further up. Found an nice isolated place and paddelled out. I swam in the lake several days before and it was OK temperature - but now after a couple of days of rain it was pretty cold and I was glad to have my shorty wetsuit on.
Happilly no one saw this sad spectacle of a land-locked surfer paddling out. If I can get a bit fitter (or a bit less un-fit), and catch one or two extra waves when on vacation next month... then it will not have been so silly. Still, I did feel pretty stupid 'suiting up' next to a perfectly falt lake :-)

Description:
Walked down the beach to find the peak I had surfed the day before... had trouble finding it, as it was so misty. Still, paddelled in and had a small peak to myself, then when a bit warmed up drifted down to the 'main' peak - where there were about 8 people out. Fun session - got a lot of waves - some held a face almost to the beach. Most got too mushy after take-off. Met Nadia in the line up.
It was so misty at times you couldn't see the beach or the waves coming.. just sitting there bobbing around waiting for the sets and chatting. Nice. By 18h30 just the two of us out there, and nice high-tide peak working.

Description:
Only about 6 people outon the peak, with very inconsistent mushy waves being blown hrough by a moderate onshore. Still this was preferable to the ultra-soft waves being riden by a zillion longboarders on the south side o Baleal..... Shame to not see Lagide iring, as its clearly a nice peak. Swell is forecast to drop even further the next couple of days... ;-(

Description:
Hardly anyone one out here when I arrived (late!) and had the choice of two peaks one either side of the direct accees to this beach. I chose the northerly peak, as a surf-scholl was warming up on the beach near the southern one....
The peak was well formed on a sand-bar so the paddle out was easy. Drifted down to the peak and caught a couple - it took me a while to get lined up right, as the sets (it was a samll day so the set waves were worth waiting for) peaked in a different place from the normal waves. Some really fun waves fllowed with going through to the reform possible

Description:
Managed to park near the beach and planted the family... at Ariffana it was just the beach break that was working. Small but quite ridable waves. I picked an empty place in the line-up (its a long beach, and about half the surfers were august beginners so no really out beyond the whitewater). Quickly got a series of waves, justabout time o stand up and ride a tiny section before closing out. Then other surfers started mysteriously appeaing in my 'empty' area. Stil, it was peaky with the waves breaking pretty randomly so everyone got some. My shortie wetsuit did for me quickly, so i retired cold back to sandwiches full of sand, thanks kids.

The wind had dropped off some, but the waves were still a big mess, with a very short period. Even though they were small, I (in my totally unfit way) really struggled to get out across the bar. Then it was a case of picking ones that weren't just going to close out.

Description:
Very windy day - with this generating some small wind-chop waves. Kitesurfers were having a blast a bit further up the beach. The wind did not let up all day, and was howling in from the SW. Surfing just behind the marina gave a little shelter from the wind. Should be better tomorrow if the swell holds.

Comment on Swell, Waves and Wind: the end of a big swell which
had come through at the beginning of the week, giving small, but clean
