Description:

Well....Ended up glassing on a big ol Single fin from a long board to replace the one I snapped off on the South Shore.

My first intro to Sunset.

I've checked it before...but twice it has been totally out of control with  North Shore Conditions off the richter and no one in the water.  In liu I've chosen Haliewa...which aint no joke either when things are like this.

Once, I checked it and it was Sunset proper. The 7' foot board I had was not going to cut it. Just big and gnarly with what looked like a pretty good rip. The wise decision to abort was indeed wise.

Today was perfect....a freak little north swell in the morning. Only 5 guys out. Occassional 10'+ faces. Just a perfect intro for me. Got to see the once in awhile freak sets come through and swing wide and catch everyone off guard. Caught a couple walled up fast ones that got tubular. Caught some lame mushy ones that didn't go anywhere. Also, Sat on the inside and tried out the bowl that breaks right up on the beach. Watch out for that! That inside reef ain't no joke either.

I can see out this places gets moody!

Can't wait to surf it bigger and with the proper equipment.

Surfboard ridden: 7

Fins: 3

Weather and water temp: w

Waves height: 2m-2.5m / 6ft-8ft

Waves Quality:
- Hollow

Waves Shape:

Description:

I guess this is where I surfed. The rights were barreling like the photo.

I went through a little alley inbetween houses.

In the past I've surfed the left way outside and off to the left of some coral heads and poles sticking out of the water. Met Mark Woo there. Cool Cat!

This time there was rights and lefts barreling way outside to the right of the alley a little. A really long and easy paddle through a channel.

Was on and firing! Snapped my center fin on a bottom turn and cut my session short.

Surf spot: Ano Nuevo, United States of America

Nb waves ridden: 5

Length of the surf session: 60 min

Surfboard ridden: 7' Freeline

Fins: tri

Weather and water temp: very cold

Waves height: 1.0m-1.5m / 3ft-5ft

Waves Quality:
- Fun

Description:

Surfed Ano a couple times since this date. It's not quite right yet. Needs a little sand to fill the gap between the outside and inside peaks. Backs off in the middle. It's not quite barreling like it can. As usual....busy. Saw a pack of 10 Japanese guys on it. Where did they come from? Japan I guess...They slowly slipped into the lineup one by one until I was surrounded. Lots of cameras too...I think I'm famous in Japan now. :) Probably one of my all time fav waves...Can be really hit or miss with angry people and ugliness. Outside the Elephant seals fight over Females while we fittingly mimmick their behavior over waves. I've even had a sealion that was catching waves over and over try to kick me and some others off the peak. Even the sealife nows how epic it gets here.

Surfboard ridden: 7

Fins: 3

Weather and water temp: w

Waves height: 2m-2.5m / 6ft-8ft

Waves Quality:

Waves Shape:

Description:

Wow! Sick wave...

Very tight local crew...3 hours and only 6 waves.

I was one of two non locals. The other guy got heckled pretty bad by a mob of Hawaiins. Funny though, the dude making the biggest stink may have been born in Hawaii but was definately of Japanese decent. Anybody ever taken notice of what the Japanese have done to Hawaii? One local dude that was catching a lot of waves dropped in on me blatenly. He definately wasn't a purebred either. Not much really different here. Good waves always brings out the ugly greediness in people.

Somehow the locs will make the unmakeable sections riding really close to the point of impact of the lip to the face and then just pull under the curtian and get shacked, so don't assume they ain't gonna make it!  Awesome to watch how wired they have it.

This place has got the juice. Real mellow take off that just jacks at the last minute and throws out. Can't wait to surf it again.

Same little lineup crap at any localized spot. Just don't expect much and you will be rewarded.

I've worked up to this spot. 15 years water time or so and I was still low man on the totem pole. Be respectful and know your experience level.

By the way...Thank you to the true Hawaiian King! Biggest hawaiian dude in the water gratiously gave up my wave of the day. Aloha and Mahalo.

If you want to see what it looked like. Go to Hawaiianwatershots.com and check out the 4/18/08 shots of Bowls.
