Description:
My first time surfting in California. Very different kind of wave from hawaii south shore. First shorebrake wave i ever surfed. Long walk to get there. Had to park at San Onofre beach and walk along the military beach to access it. There were alot of good lefts, but limited lefts. Lots of closeout waves with indistinct peak. Sand and seaweed bottom.

"Another Pleasant Valley Sunday" (morning) in the river that is. Small background southern hemi ground swell, a touch of NW wind swell, plus some energy from Hurricane Hernan, a Cat-3 storm with winds topping out over 115 mph (185 kph) late Sunday night.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Hernan was located off Mexico's western coast, about 1,065 miles (1,715 kilometers) west-southwest of the tip of the Baja California peninsula, moving northward and further out to sea.
Some fun chest high waves out there this morning from 6AM to 9AM, before the wind came up and the crowd came out ... where were you Kelly C.?

This beach has a surf rental spot called Inside Surf School. It is better equipped for body boarders then for surfers as most of the boards are foam and they do not havea good range of wetsuits (no S!)
I went out during high tide and got beat up by the waves. C'est la vie! :)

First time at los locos with new board. Yellow flag flying. Learned how to balance myself on the board, paddle out beyond break zone and break through waves. Managed to get to my knees a couple of times. As this is only my second day with a full size board not bad for a start.
Los locos was busy but I managed to stay out of the way of the experienced surfers.

First time at Liencres. The beach is divided in two by an outcrop of rocks. There are about 2 Kilometres of beach on each side. The waves were very irregular and there was a bit of an undercurrent. I only saw one person manage to stand up for a short time. A bit too much for a beginner really. I bought a new 7 foot board yesterday which I was trying out. Had fun but not really the best day to start surfing. Probably would have been been better to stick with the bodyboard for today.
The red flag was raised a short time after I left the sea.

Padelled out alone, the swell had picked up overnight and so had the wind which was blowing pretty much cross-shore to onshore. ONlnset waves were really ridable, as there was just enough size to feel the potential of this spot. It must be great on a big swell. Low tide was about right today for some longish rides. a long board would have been better.
