Description:
Finally it looks like the jellyfish are clearing out. This time I only saw 2 near the jetty and 1 while I was in the water. Much better than the last few days where I've been checking and seeing 20-40 jellyfish each time. Maybe they are finally gone...
Anyhow, the sun was strong today and ow it burnt! The sand burnt, the cement on the jetty burnt, the rocks at the end of the jetty burnt! I couldn't get into the water fast enough (was wearing a full wet suit to avoid jelly stings). And when I hit the water, it was warm too! I was hoping for some relief in the cool water we've had this year, but it was almost low tide and the water was the hottest it's been all year!
The water was beautiful blue/green and very clear! It was a beautiful day and there were a lot of waves. But there were also a good 6-8 people on the same wave. Not overly crowded but kind of a pain when little kids keep charging every wave and calling everyone off.

Description:
Wow! There were jellyfish everywhere! When I was checking things out I saw some jellyfish, but I've seen a few before in San Bartolo's Playa Norte. No big deal. But today there were a few more than usual close to the shore. I jump off the jetty and head out to catch some small waves and such.
On the way out I have to dodge jellyfish everywhere. Once I'm out there I catch a wave. After the wave I look in the water and there's a huge (2+ foot in diameter) jellyfish right next to me. As I swim away from it and back out to catch another way, the breaking waves show even more huge jellyfish. Before I know it, it's hard to go anywhere without having to avoid jellies.
I asked one of the locals how bad their sting is and he said they hurt and you only need a touch from a tentacle to sting you. He was also watching out for them very carefully. After a bit more time things just seemed to get worse. It was almost impossible to paddle without hitting a jellyfish's head with your hand at some point.
I was just wearing board shorts and a rash vest so I didn't feel like staying around much longer and risking a sting from one of this big guys. I'll go back tomorrow with my full wet suit.
It's really gotten me thinking though, how bad can it hurt? Would you loose days of surfing if you got a really bad jellyfish sting or could you just ignore it?

Description:
The report announced 1.2 to 1.5 m. When I came on the beach it was rather 1.5 to 2m, powerful and ledgey with beautiful rights.
There was no one in the water. I decided to go. The shorebreak was difficult to pass as it was so hollow. I haven't the level to surf there. I went to the outside bank at 500 m outside. Waves were big and the peak was moving and there was a lot of current.
After few tries, I managed to catch a wave and I realized that my board was too short: I should have take my 6'8".
When I was waiting to the peak, a bigger set came...I dive but
I hear a 'clounch' , It was my leash... and my board went away.
So the situation was: alone in the water, 500m outside, strong currents, with big sets. I didn't felt comfortable. I have started to swim back to the beach and staying at the impact zone to avoid the currents. After 15 mn of paddle I get my board which was stuck ed just between the bowl and the rip currents. Ouf ! I get my board.
The second obstacle was the insane shorebreak: I lost again my board to avoid to be knocked with it (a bodyboarder was dead here 2 weeks ago for the same reason...)
I actually managed to swin to the beach...and I decide to come back home !
the outside bank with powerful rights
Check the shore break. it was bigger than it seems on the photo: around 1.5m (hollow)

Description:
This was my first time in the 2nd part (middle) of San Bartolo (the rights just to the right of the largest jetty). Also my first time in San Bartolo at mid-rising tide. It was also my first time entering/exiting the water from a jetty/rocks. It went pretty well though and the rocks were fairly smooth (a few small snails and other things, but no urchins or sharp shells).
It took me a bit to get the hang of the area. There's a nice rip right alongside the jetty, so after a ride you can paddle over towards the jetty and it'll shoot you right back out to the lineup (awesome!). I wasn't going out too far as I was looking for some of the mid sized (5-7 footers) waves rather than the 6-8+ foot waves that were out there.
I had some problems catching the waves at first due to the fact that they back off a bit in a certain spot. Eventually I watched some of the locals and they were waiting for the wave to partially break and then they'd catch it in the partially breaking whitewater knowing that it would back off, reform and not close on them. I caught one this way pretty easilly (though it was a bit hard to see with all the splash and I was going towards the rocks). But after that I started to cramp up. I fought through the cramps for a while, but each time when I'd be able to catch a wave they'd come back, so I had to head in.
Paddling back to the shore w/o being able to catch waves is a bit of a pain. There are a lot of rocks, so going to the shore can be a bit hazardous. Also getting close to the jetty for your exit is a bit tough due to the rip. So you have to take a wide berth around the jetty and then angle towards it and catch it before the rip pulls you out. I managed OK, but w/ both legs cramped up to hell it was a lot of arm paddling.

Description:
ouch... if the waves were a little smaller than last week, they were more powerful, hollower and faster. The peak was moving a lot and there was some current. I was alone, gloups... But, after 30 mn of observation, I started to feel comfortable and I caught some good waves.
Results: 11 wawes with 4 bombs + 1 tube... not a bad session
The video shows that it was not a easy session
And the photos show that it was hollow...
