Description:
started off as a flat, rainy day. then the sun came out i was still at my camp site so i decided to mosey on down to wooly, when i got their was still flat so went and ate in the red barn and kept half an eye on the surf. all of a sudden it picked up majourly. started off surfing on the right by the rocks but the rip was very strong so i got pulled down the beach a few times and had to come back in and walk up. then just as i was comming back in my dad came down and said i should go out again. so i went out again by the rocks the tide had gon down a bit by this point and the waves were so nice and glassy, really clean. by this point i had been in the water for about 3 hours and was very tired. so i couldnt really get out to the peaks cos of all the white water. still a very very nice days surfing.

Eu e artur saímos de recife antes das 4 da manhã, pra pegar o terral em porto de galinhas (60km) chegamos antes de clarear o dia, no marupiara, para ver as condições de surf. condições perfeitas, altas ondas, terral forte. comemos e decidimos cair no borete, mais 3km ao sul. Canto do lobo, perfeito, bons tubos e umas paredes boas, mas fechando um pouco e séries demoradas. mas deu pra fazer a cabça nos tubos que apareciam e nas paredes que vez por outra subia. 8 horas da manhã, bateu o ventão e a sessão acabou. mas cabeça feita.

I was expected perfect waves as all the inidcators were green: offshore winds forecasted, long swell. But in fact, there was a lot of fog and the wind was...onshore !
Nethermind, I caught some good ones and the best was my last one with two big backside rollers.

Got off the plane at 5:20 am and in the water 2 hours later to some great surf. A great way to start off the trip and there were 10-15 guys out, but Sunzal holds a crowd really well with lots of peaks and even a little left.

TIDE WAS WAY TOO HIGH!!! 1.5 m, said the chart. Swell was nice 6-7ft, but only broke on the rocks. Horrible day. Got bashed and cut up trying to get out on the rocks by sister Dorothy's place and bashed the nose of my board. Always get access through Medical Teams International compound now. And don't surf there at high, high tide. AAAAGGGGHHHH!

Went out around 4pm, was crowded as shit but i paddled down from North Curly down into Mid and found a nice bank with only a few guys around. Caught some great lefts, nearly got barrelled, but some prick on a bodyboard pushed the lip down on me!! Doesnt matter coz i picked up a nice little tube on a right hander the next morning! (South Curly for that one)

This was a session of a lifetime. Had a 300+m ride. The inside section was walling up like crazy and so fast. Had to hurry like h*&! to make it past some sections and got barreled and covered up for a few seconds. The latter section is just fun and powerless, but you got to ride it out just for the sake of surfing a wave this far. Some of the bigger ones were less aggressive but had amazing faces and massive swooping drop ins. What a day. Beautiful weather. Except for the water. Tons of rubbish and brown foam. It was the worst I've seen it. Worth it in my opion, though.

2nds was giving one of the longest rights I've ever surfed. No waves in LAguna but amazingly one beach down Doho had some good 4 ft sets. It was empty until school got out. When 2nds got to high I went to boneyards and it was ok but a little small. I waited far outside for the sets swith about 4 other advanced longboarders (including me) so that all the noobs wouldn't get in my way. Big sets came about every 20 mins with smaller sets inbetween. It would break outside then almost die. and the fall in again.

Had been suffering form back ache for a month and a half, went to go see an osteopath who put all my ribs and spine back into place, and to make it even better I decided to wake up pretty early on Mother's Day (had had word of great surf on Saturday).
I couldn't have chosen better, arrived at Tramandaí Pier at 935AM, went out around 10, it was perfect and peaceful, you would talk to fishermen and tourists who were at the left end of the pier above you.
And those 4-foot beauties kept coming in sets of 4, 5... with enough luck you could connect sessions and make it all the way to the sand. Outside carves, inside floaters and snaps, it couldn't get much brighter, really.
If you want to know the power and the passion of offshore days here, spare some 20 days and pray for low-pressure zones followed by thunder storms... it brings about the greatest turn around - from shitty waves to dream boats... who feels it knows it, Lord...

It was a good day with good waves that where barrelling nicely there was only a couple of people out there with me early in the session the waves where about 6ft but later they jacked and became bigger and more powerful. They where wedging nicely of the rocks.

I was back in Lima in May and found time to get down to La Pampilla for a little bit. It was much better than my previous session (in which I fought the current most of the time). The water certainly had dropped about 10 F down to the 60 F range. With my 3/2 wetsuit I was OK, but it was a little cold (a 4/3 and gloves recommended in winter).
Surprisingly the place was packed. Even the beach had a good crowd. As always I saw a number of the regulars. All together there must have been around 20 or so in the lineup. There were also a good deal of people surfing just up north the coast a bit. There were both lefts and rights available around the point break.
Closer to the shore I was able to catch some nice and fairly regular waves good for bodyboarding. I went out a bit farther, but it was quite crowded out there. There were also fewer (but larger) waves. I was unable to catch any of the big ones due to the crowd.
There was a bit of trash both in the water and on the shore. Apparently Petroquimicas Columbia had dumped a ton of trash some where in the water around Lima. I guess a few weeks earlier it had coated everything, but the clean up was progressing and things were in better shape. There were a number of clean up crews all over the Costa Verde working on cleaning the trash as more came in each day.
Anyhow, this session was a little shorter than usual due to the cold (not wanting to cramp up), but it was a good time and I caught a few nice waves. I'll be back ASAP.
