Surf spots just onfoot
Beng Beng => A very consistent world class wave, an extremely
rippable left. This spot is loads of fun and probably one of the easiest
waves to surf in the Mentawai’s. It’s the deepest and safest wave in
the area and also pick up a bit more swell than other locales. 5 more
breaks in the area, including E-Bay and Pitstops. Nestled inside a small
bay with one of the most scenic views imaginable all around you.
E-Bay => This is a hollow left that barrels off the take-off with a
short wall down the line. A great option when a lot of swell is
hitting. A hollow, fast, powerful left. A world class wave for
experienced surfers. Watch out for the two rocks on the inside. Great
barrels, and turns into a surfing paradise at 6 feet offshore. There is a
heavy warble that hits as you are taking off. Make the drop and don’t
get thrown by that first warble and chances are you’ll get a mean aqua
blue barrel. The scenery alone will blow you away. Besides its aesthetic
beauty, double overhead E-bay is a beast and forces to be reckon with.
Nipussi or Pussies => A shorter right that breaks down the point
from Bank Vaults. Definitely fun and rippable. Usually has fairly deep
water from the takeoff to the inside. Ends in a riptide that sucks all
the water back out to sea. A good option when there’s not much swell,
and usually the most consistent spot in the area.
Pitstops => This is the right off the peak at E-Bay. A playful right
that can offer some cover-ups off the take-off, but mostly a high
performance wave with air sections at the end. Ends in a sandy channel.
How do I reach Mentawai Islands?
By Ferry from padang, to mentawai islands or mentawai islands to padang, (west sumateran, indonesia)
The most comfortable Ferry to Mentawai is Ferry Ambu Ambu (made from
Steel). Since September 2009, the Ambu-Ambu Ferry travels overnight from
Padang Bungus to Muara Siberut 2. and 3. Thursday nights of each month.
From Muara Siberut to Padang Bungus, the ferry travels 2. and 3. Friday
nights of each month.
The ferry departs from Padang at 9:00 p.m. and arrives at approximately 7:00 a.m. the following morning.
The Sumber Rejeki traditional Ferry (made from wood) travels overnight
from Padang Bungus to Muara Siberut every Monday evening. From Muara
Siberut to Padang, the ferry travels every tuesday nights.

Fun "summer" day in october. The swell was long 12s, and waves were smaller than expected. The swell was so long that sandbanks didn't worked perfectly but waves were enough good.
I got fun cover up even if there was a lack of power.

Took the day off for my B'Day and tried to get a birthday surf.. it wasn't happenin, So didn't actually get surfin myself but have just fnished the 1st part of my surf instructors course and called round to visit the guys at Troggs Surf School and ended up goin in to coach a group with them.. pure class.. It's awesome watchin some of the kids gettin standing for the 1st time and the smiles on their faces are priceless. Cant wait to get back up and do some more coachin!
Headin to Mullaghmore this weekend for a wee trip with the wife.. hopefully get a bit of surf while im down there and even if I do or don't I reckon a trip back to the port on Sunday is in order! lol

I came back here to verify if the sandbanks get better : not, it's still pretty bad... But the waves were good and 1 wave on 3, it was a good hollow run !
I got my BEST and most technical backside tube in my life : jump on my front feet (parallel to the stringer, important point), the backside arm in the wave face to slow down and the speed control. I was very happy because it means that I have recovered all my balance and it's maybe the best news.
And during the afternonn, I took a small airplane along the whole coast from montalivet to biscarrosse to find new sandbanks.... pretty efficient....

This is an out of town point, no one was out there surfing, we had the whole beach for our selfs.
Very nice wave, about a 10 second ride, peak, some barrels, nice FUN day.
Next to that point there is another that is not in the surf Atlas of this site, that was one of the best surf session of this trip, BEAUTIFUL left, if you connected all the way to the beach it was probably a 30 to 40 second ride, Fast in some spots, strong and tubular in others, AWESOME waves, about 6 ft.

Description:
Hungry is just the best spot which works on every swell and can be tubular, soft, long, big. Several (and good) locals at the peak : it was hard to catch some waves. A lot of surfer and bodyboarder girls in the water.
I stayed on the left and got some really and long ones : powerful take off but not too hollow, then trimming at full speed to avoid the reef then bottoms and cutbacks...
I could stay at this spot my whole life !

We came on the island of Tanagashima the night before. I didn't kew if the surf was good : I just cruised along the coast to find the surf spots. The swell was forecasted from the south which was not very good.
Waves along the coast were windy... I arrived at Rock which is maybe the best wave, a pointbreak on boulders. It worked ! Beautiful 1m - 1.20m lines opened with only 5 surfers. Waves were infrequent. I let my daughters on the harbour (the fishermen came to discuss with them...).
The right is pretty shallow but very regular : I tak off, seeing the boulders underwater going throuh....
This session is one of my best session in my life !

The swell was more powerful than yesterday and I was alone. I hesitated to surf alone with my borken leash. Rip were very strong and if I will have a problem, I will be completely alone.
I finally went into the water. Lefts looked beautiful and tubular but I stayed on the right where rips were less strong.I got 10 wave. A pretty mental session...

After visiting Kyushu, I came back at the same spot to catch few waves. I discovered a Hummer at the little parking. A Hummer ? in Japan where there is only very naarrow roads ?
When I came on the beach, the swell was bigger : a solid 1.5m - 2m with 5 surfers. I jumped in the water with my yellow-old-with-a-rope board. The surfers had dark regards covered with tatoos. Tatoos in Japan are done by Yakuza. It explained the hummer - Gloups -
So I stayed as a little mouse...And managed to take 5 beautiful and big rights ! It was a very good surf.
I finished at the end of the day in the most beautiful hot bath I have ever found in Japan ("healthy land") : you watch 2 mountains, the pacific and the Kaimon Dake in a large 270° landscape.

I didn't expect any waves in this area of Kyushu but there was a big typhoon just 2 days before. I woke up at 5h30 and tried to go the the beach near the Kaimon Dake (a wonderful volcanoe looking like the Fujisan). I drove along the coast without being able to come close to the beach. On a big bridge, I discovered that there were some waves but no access ! I continued until I just turn left towards the sea... ANd It was rewarding : I just arrived at maybe the best sandbank around !
Beautiful 1.20m waves, no winds and few surfers. On the main peak, I took 3 waves and finished in a big shore break when my leash (2 years old in Japan) broke...argh !!!
And the waves were still good !
I just took a small rope on the beach and went back to surf on a different peak.
I was so happy to surf at least ont time in Japan !

First time out at Topanga, tiny waves, but some fun on the sets, mix of longboarders and others, the quad fish proved easy for catching waves, even for an unfit old guy like me... Highlights were the dolphins swimming past (as I was getting suited up...) and the nice vibe in the water: people chatting, no aggro, made for a really nice session. Cool locals!

Just after the tide, NW swell 10s. I found a nearly good sandbank. The left was fun for 45mn : you could have 4 or 5 tricks. I have done fun carving.
After the right started to work but there were a lot of surfers and a surfchool.
A good session in the middle of the summer !

What a session ! Low tide, Punchy waves :1m - 1.2m, 3 or 4 sets at 1.5m.
Fun lefts to surf with a lot of tubes. Only 4-5 surfers. I love again the area after several weeks without good surf.

Woke up early and I discover big storms. I hesitated to go. The tide was high but it was surfable and It got good with the lower tide.
I could try my new board in good wave (2 good close out tubes, one failed aerial )
I had to go out the water for 15min because of a small storm.

Esmoriz is a small traditional Portuguese village, it has many different waves in a small area of coast line.
Great for beginners and advanced surfers. Get really good in the beginning and end of the summer.
It´s one of the most consistent surfspots in north Portugal.

Long powerful swell (1.50m, 9s). It works only at high tide. 1h30mn after : there are only close-outs.
I got punchy waves, 4 tubes (I founbd the exit for 2 of them). I put only 2 stars because I was disappointed by the sandbanks.

Still good waves at high tide. It was tubular. I took my "old" board : a thruster 6'2". I didn't surfed it since 4 years...

Offshore early in the morning. The swell didn't look so good but it improved during the morning. And I got a fun sandbank : only lefts !
Big long turns all the morning. Then Loig et Matt came.
