Description:
This covers 2 days, hence why the details contradict themselves.
This happened last August where for a couple of days there was a pretty big storm lingering on the SW coast, one day the waves were totally maxing out and despite the lifeguards effort to keep surfers out there were a few that managed to pursaide them to let us out, despite the big conditions the few surfers that made it to the one working section were the longboarders, all the short boarders were just being nocked about to much and with a strong rip it was near to impossible. On my way out I was almost reaching safety until some swine dropped in out of nowhere, and when I say dropped in I dont mean on feet, I mean being thrown from the lip on a close-out, his board smashed me square on my head, which ruled me out of a days surf. After a dizzy paddle back, I watched to for the rest of the day, later noticing that the guy who hit me was being dragged out by the Lifeguards with blood pouring down his face.
The next day could not have been a more opposite, totally flat, so me and my friend decided to just go for a swim around the rocks on the townside of the beach, and leave our boards and wettys in the car. Which, was driven off by another friend to go to St Ives for the day. As soon as we had realised this had happened, guess what, 3 to 4 foot sets come rolling in. After a while of discussion we decided we would cut our losses and go body surfing in just boxers. FREEZING cold but what a good time we had, if only we had our boards, there wasnt a sole in sight!

Description:
This was interseting for me because, this was the first time I had ever gone surfing all by myself in a unfamiliar place. I just started trying to surf ever two months this year. I love it to death but live 5 hours from the nearest surf spot. I had done it a couple times the year before and knew I was hooked. So still trying to figure out a way to move closer not to mention I would also have to convinced my husband of this. I think he at times thinks I'm a bit obsessed which I just say, "Well yeah, LOL. Anyways sorry on with my story. The first hour or so I basically sat there. They guys there seemed pretty local and of course I didn't want to push my way in. So I waited and waited. But finally this older gent swam over and said, "You going to sit there or are you going to surf." So then he introduced me to the little gang they had. After that everyone seemed friendly for the most part. I don't know if I would have really ever picked this spot. Except taht I friend was getting married near there and that was the only place I could sneak away to. it was kind of dirty and not the best waves. But when you are surfing how can you not have fun.

I was expexted a good session but the swell wasn't very good and sandbanks didn't work at their best. I went to meet Gabriel who was sleeping in his van. But I haven't succeeded to wake up him... So I wen to surf alone. If the session was not so good, I get a tube and finsished with an aerial (!!!).
After, I went to Lacanau to get my broken board....
At low tide, it was less good as it was closing out

Description:
The swells at northside Seal Pier (when conditions are right) all merge into big peaks that refract off the pier breakwall into what we call "Harvey Wall Bangers". The wave suddenly jumps up to one and a half times its size like The Wedge" at Newport ... you free fall down the face and if you make the drop your in a cannon barrel churning over the shallow inside sand bar!
Seal Pier:
July she will fly ... but she gave us a solid week of good waves in SOCAL from the 2nd through the 9th!
July 2nd: Northside Seal Pier was looking good ... waist to shoulder high with occasional head high sets and only a handfull of people in the warer!
Picked off a beauty ... paddled outside as a big set popped up off the end of the pier ... let the first couple go to clear out traffic and the shortboarders hanging out inside ... spun around and stroked in hard as a shoulder high peak jumped to head high ... dropped in at an angle, top turned laying the board on its sidebites, thrusting out and up with the peak feathering over my head and pumped up and down from the middle of the face racing the barrel as we hit the inside sandbar ... yeah!
A shortboarder inside was most impressed ... "cool that was a standup tube dude"!
July 3rd: Temp this morning at 9AM was a sizzling 90F water temp 70F with big combo mix of SE Hurricane/SW Southern Hemi ground swell and NW wind swells.
My ex pat Sydney mate Stuart Blake (Bruce) and I were out at northside by 6:30AM DST to beat the crowd ... bigger than yesterday with overhead sets but not as good shape ... a little walled out.
The word was out the swell was building so did the crowd but got lucky and was in position to pick up a giant outside peak that rolled through the middle section ... thought twice but had to paddle in to it, late take off or not... everyone inside was yelling go! go! go! ... take off was like jumping off a roof ... barely made the drop without getting buried under a ton of white water, carefully carved up and down the face until it reared into a nasty wall and (discretion being the better part of valour) straightened down and out hard!
Bruce said "that one was a bit steep thought you were history mate"!
4th of July: Independence Day with the largest fireworks display south of the Mississippi (have your kids spell that one) down at "Surf City" Huntington Beach, Steel Pier. PCH was closed from 7PM to 11PM ... traffic was a bloody nightmare did not even try to go to the beach ... half of OC was there by 9AM!
PS Not as big as the pix above but fun, fun, fun ... who says there are no waves at Seal Beach!
1 oz Vodka

4 oz Orange juice
