I had a few good sessions out at Carrapteira in early November with light offshore winds and small but fun waves. Got my new fish to work which performed really well in these conditions (thanks Justin @ www.morphsurfboards.com !!
Most of the crowd surfs the wave right next to the rock. Keep on walking a bit and you will find a pretty nice left carrying on for 100m or so.

Was in Portugal for a short Holiday and figured i'd get a good surf while I was there... Went down to Gale beach which was a short walk from our appartment and tried to see if there was somewhere to rent a surf board.. (even a foamy would have done) but no.. in the full stretch of beach, Which is I dont know how many miles long there was no where to rent. There was a surfer worked at the pedalo rental thing and after asking him where I could rent a surf board apparently the nearest place was the west coast. So in desperation I went to a local sports shop and bought a body board just so I could catch some sort of wave.
Headed straight to the beach and caught some good waves.. both left and right handers.. not quite the same as surfing but better than nothing. Waves got a bit dumpy at high tide due to the steep shore line. Hopefully will be able to head to the west coast next time im in Portugal. either that or fork out to bring my boards with me.

last day of Lagos 08....we all tried a big paddle out to the break. only me and pat made it out from Team Jeep 08 and he went back in eventually. i sat around and watched the good surfers like Jed and then found myself paddling into a big wave...not too sure how or why...got it, got up...looked down the wave and wiped out...wasnt really sure what to do with a new, big(ger) wave!
cool experience though and felt i truely deserved the chicken bacon and avacado afterwards!

Hardly anyone one out here when I arrived (late!) and had the choice of two peaks one either side of the direct accees to this beach. I chose the northerly peak, as a surf-scholl was warming up on the beach near the southern one....
The peak was well formed on a sand-bar so the paddle out was easy. Drifted down to the peak and caught a couple - it took me a while to get lined up right, as the sets (it was a samll day so the set waves were worth waiting for) peaked in a different place from the normal waves. Some really fun waves fllowed with going through to the reform possible

Description:
Managed to park near the beach and planted the family... at Ariffana it was just the beach break that was working. Small but quite ridable waves. I picked an empty place in the line-up (its a long beach, and about half the surfers were august beginners so no really out beyond the whitewater). Quickly got a series of waves, justabout time o stand up and ride a tiny section before closing out. Then other surfers started mysteriously appeaing in my 'empty' area. Stil, it was peaky with the waves breaking pretty randomly so everyone got some. My shortie wetsuit did for me quickly, so i retired cold back to sandwiches full of sand, thanks kids.
