It started off really crap and bumpy, but after about 15 minutes it got glassy, super hollow and big for about 2 hours then got crap again when the seabreeze came in.
about 10 people out, the busiest i've seen alkimos and a few of my freinds got dragged over the reef and cut themselves up pretty bad, and I bellyflopped onto a sharp bit of ankle deep reef and ripped open my wettie, winded myself and bruised my chest.

surf quality 8/10. my performance 1/10
overall i guess that averages to a 4.5!

Went out for a session with a mate, both of us had new boards to break in. Weather was pretty average but there was no-one else out there which was awesome. The waves were 2-3ft, a little choppy but the wind was cross/off so they held up pretty nice and I got plenty of waves on the new twinnie, she carves like a little beast. After a couple of hours with the beach to ourselves we bailed and went for some Jums..

Thought i would drive to miserys with a few mates, curious to see what it was like, we got down to the beach but couldnt see any waves in the corner, we wandered down the beach to check it out and saw an awesome mini wedge come through with a sick side wash ride into a huge wall where the waves collided an finished with a hollow shallow barrel at the end. We raced to the car and got are wetties on and gear, flung down to the beach again and charged this spot for ages, Awesome shaped wedges formed every where and we were having a sick time getting little speed of the side wash flying up the wedge and the launching down the beach in a tube!! Sick Day...

Description:
I had just moved to the Eyre peninsula for work and was mainly surfing the southern reefs like Flatrock, Monument and Sheringa but they were a 3 hour drive. After a solid session at Flatrock I was driving home along the Lincoln Hwy and saw white water just past Arno Bay. I drove down a short track and to the coast and located 2 reef set ups at Red Banks. They were not surfable, only about 1 foot but they had potential in a huge swell. Early May a 6 metre plus swell hit the S.A. The winds were NW, so on my day off I went and checked Red Banks. Not expecting more than a 2-3 foot fat reef wave I pulled into the empty carpark and I was greeted with 3 maybe even 4 foot right hand slabs barrelling across the reef and spitting. I was stoked, no way I expected any kind of decent surf this far up the east coast of the Eyre Peninsula. The wave looked like a mini shark island the way it hit the reef and then slabbed into a super hollow perfect barrel. I ride a bodyboard which was the perfect craft for this wave and proceeded to get small but perfect super hollow barrels without a person in sight, yeew.

Description:
Went out on a stunning Sydney Autumn afternoon with another mate, we're both amateurs/ man grommets which is why we chose a small day as our baptism at the bower. There were two paddle surfers, a guy riding a mal, a guy in a kayak and a Brazilian guy on a short board who was also out there for the first time and me and my mate on a fish 6'8"and epoxy 6'8' respectively.
It was just about bang on high tide, but you could tell it wasn't a very high high-tide, as the water mark was visible on the rocks on the point. (I've just checked the tide reading was 1.4m, and it can get up to 1.7m)
For high tide I was surprised how shallow the water was. This is also due to the fact that as it was so small, we just paddled from Shelley beach out through the break. I can't imagine that you would do this with any size about. In any case, we paddled out and I could touch the bottom easily where we were waiting for waves.
Finally a wave came through that hadn't been snaffled by one of the other longer more adapted surf craft to the conditions, and it was good quality. It was small but a clean little face to follow and presumably do something on if I knew how to surf well. We'd surfed North Steyne earlier in the day and the lines were so square with the Easterly swell that it was closing out perfectly, so this was a welcome change.
I caught two other nice mellow waves which were perfectly adapted to my level. The take off was very smooth with a shoulder and plenty of time to get up, relatively speaking. Generally the waves were very mellow as well.
Would be interested to surf again in slightly larger conditions to see where the waves break with a bit more size. Some of the rocks just jut out, 10 cm from the surface. I would probably consider a helmet if it was big next time, just to tick all the boxes of man grommetry....
The spot itself is breathtakingly beautiful and the paddle out past scuba and snorklers, with people walking by on the promenade, gives this spot a really unique feel. Shelley beach has the advantage of catching the very last rays of western sun as well. Manly gets dark about 15 minutes earlier due to the buildings and trees obstructing the light.
The unofficial language of Shelley beach is French by the way. It seemed every time I overheard anyone speak on the walk out there, it was in French. Vive la France!!

This was the first time I'd surfed in about ten years. Having been a skater and a snow boarder, I don't have trouble getting vertical, but it took me a few rounds before I was able to control things comfortably.
After about two hours, the waves were ridiculous. The frequency was so short that I was still trying to get over the last before the next hit. I got past the breaks after much effort, watched things a bit, then took my time until I got a decent wave that took me most of the way back in, then started the whole thing over again.
Coming back into surfing here is probably not the best scenario, but it was a beautiful day and a nice beach, even though the crowd was heavy.

Description:
After the last session I really wanted to get out there and combine the skills that I have with the confidence to ride the waves we had. The last session I hadn't surfed to my ability but had learnt some important lessons.
Unfortunately the conditions weren't lining up for us and today was bigger than Monday but with less shape. I caught a few waves and fell off them. I caught one in the foam and got angling, but just couldn't quite get around it and onto the face. Went for miles though... then paddled back out. I was chuffed that I was catching the waves, though. Finally I caught a nice one and got angling along the face... right up until it sectioned and I didn't manage to get round it.
This was the last session we got. The other days were either bigger, the wind was screaming onshore or the current was so strong that getting into position would have been next to impossible for me.
I've learnt a lot and can't wait to get out at my home breaks with a different view on what 'big' is.
Hoping for small GLASSY conditions when I head back next year. :) Can't wait to see it at its best in offshore conditions.

Description:
Today we paddled out the back with an escort. My dad and uncle showed us the best way to paddle out and where to sit. Managed to get cleaned up by one wave when a set came wide, but otherwise made it out the back fine.
I caught two ~head-high waves, the first I rode straight for some inexplicable reason. This left me with a massive distance to paddle back out. But I wanted to know that I could get back out the back. So I paddled wide like I was told and got there. The second wave I caught was looking really nice, but I needed to be angling more straight away. The wind was making the waves really bumpy and I ended up falling off on the second ride after hitting a speed bump.
Overwhelming experience. Hasgiven me a very different perception of my home breaks.

This was James and my first session at Tombstones. To say we were awed is an understatement. There is just so much going on. Lines of swell peeling along, the bombie off to the right, reef, coral, a cliff to climb down; the whole experience is full on.
We stayed in close and caught some reforms on the wide side. The current was fairly strong which meant paddling the entire time to try and position yourself for a decent wave.
Getting out, the tide was low enough for us to climb up the cliff.
