is boogie boarding surfing - 2007/11/20 00:16 Can boogie boarding really be considered surfing, it's been an argument ever since I've started surfing. I've even seen them chased out of the waves in IB San Diego and in Westport Washington (this was 20 years ago) with thous a hole they wouldn't even let them in the water.

Re:is boogie boarding surfing - 2007/11/24 20:16 BodyBoarding is NOT surfing dude, BodyBoarding has its own unique style, so it can NOT be considered as surfing. Think about it surfing is way different to BodyBoarding, so many differences. Yes i BodyBoard and i still post my spots and sessions here, so i suppose in 1 way its the same kinda thing, we both ride waves and both enjoy doing it.

Re:is boogie boarding surfing - 2007/12/01 22:52 All manners to get taken away with a wave is surfing. Doesn't matter if standing, kneeing, laying on a chunk of "something" or only use the body to glide to the beach...as long as there is surf! Questionable is what some riders call "windsurfing" when they sneak with snailspeed over a flat lake. Get me right: Windsurfers in Maui or Sylt for example are also surfers. Another thing is what makes boogie boarders some kind of problematic: Due to their fins they are able to catch waves from their position in the lineup where other surfers cannot expect it. Sometimes they appear out of the foam like a phoenix and cause drop ins and crashes. Also boogie borders are often kids, rookies or tourist at first contact with waves - no fear no rules no behaving... thats why boarders often are displeased. Anyhow - they surf!

Re:is boogie boarding surfing - 2007/12/02 10:14 I am with Herwig.

Riding a wave, IS surfing.

Just like the days when skiers didn't get along with snowboarders...who cares...wave riders or snow riders, it should just be fun for all.
It isn't about the years in your life, but the life in your years.
