Fitting a fin in my Longboard Fin box - 2008/08/24 19:26Hi outhere,
I've recently bouth I secound hand Lonboard and I bought a new fin to it.
However the Longboard fin does not fit completely into my fin box. This caused by the fact that the Fin Box is grinded of much b the Longboard shaper. As a tall an heavy weigth beginner I bought a second hand Longbard 10'8". ? In my entusiam I've grinded of a bit of the fin, which in the end reduced the problem, but not solve the problem completely. One solution would be to use longer fin screw.
Could you gibe me some advice me how to deal with this problem. I've added some pictures to make the issue a little more clear.
Kind Rgards

Re:Fitting a fin in my Longboard Fin box - 2008/08/25 02:38As long as it won't come out don't worry about it. (You could grind a little more off the fin.) By the way that's a strange looking box very little travel ... also that's a very large fin?

Re:Fitting a fin in my Longboard Fin box - 2008/08/25 02:55I've seen this problem many times. All my colleagues will grind their fins with sandpaper. Just a few seconds and the check if it fits. on the one hand you can grind the fin at the bootom and on the other hand on the sides. But be careful, you have to grind both sides. Then it will fit anytime.
gooed luck and greets

Re:Fitting a fin in my Longboard Fin box - 2008/08/25 07:55A 10" fin with such a large base will create a lot of drag (like a rudder)and will make the board hard to turn and even harder to cutback. I prefer smaller fins for that 'loose' feeling. (The largest I would go on a 10' board would be something like the 9" Harbour HP1 noserider fin, which as you can see is cutaway ... also try slide it forward just a couple of inches.

Re:Fitting a fin in my Longboard Fin box - 2008/08/25 12:59I'll try the 10" first, just for the experience. As a 6'6" guy of 225 lbs I wil have lots of drag anyway
So, both smaller fin (Same shape?) and sliding forward lead to less drag?
Thanks for your advice
