Re:Natural surf by Bic 7'9" - 2007/03/04 07:09Peter,
Checked out your profile and info based on your purchase proposition.
If you are a progressing surfer, moving from a learner to a more experienced position stay away from boards in the 7'9'' range for 2 reasons : a) they are not shortboards and 2) they are not longboards. So in short they do neither well. My personal beleive is that the mini mal / hybrid is half way to nothing board.
Either buy a big guy short board up to 6'10 - 7' with lots of float or a longboard namely 9' plus. I have ridden a BIC as a hire board out of total desperation when on holiday. Yes they are cheap but they ride cheap. From your photo do I recognise a mercedes motorcar. They ain't cheap - don't buy cheap surfboards its a false economy of your precious time. My advice for what its worth either:
1) Go see a shaper, get a good glass construction longboard and get real good on a longboard then think abot shorter boards. OR.....
2) Buy a genuine longboard shape that is tried and tested namely a surftech longboard .....the shapes work. I currently own 6 surftech longboards and 3 glass longboards. BIC don't make anything that comes close to any of them.
Hope this doesn't sound to opinionated,
Maximum Stoke,
Guy

Re:Natural surf by Bic 7'9" - 2007/03/06 05:51I think that the perfect board for you, doesn't exist!!! eheh It dipend of your height of your weight of your exerience level... and it's not enough... It dipend of the wave that you usually surf.
do you want a bit of advice? Buy a beautifoul 9' longboard... or if you want a shortboard... buy a fish board for small waves
bye Simon

Re:Natural surf by Bic 7'9" - 2007/03/07 16:45some good advice there... go either long or short (or both if you can afford it ), and don't use a hybrid. At least thats what I always thought UNTIL about two years ago, when I tried a friends board (a SurfTech 8.0 hybrid) - it is really easy to paddle, solid in the take-offs, and you can turn it (almost) like a short board... its tough as nails - so its great for travelling. My friend has used it in 8ft (hawaiian) Sunset, as well as Punta Rocas in Peru. I've used it in the Maldives (on walled up reef breaks) and on small days in europe. Absolutely love it (but its definately NOT a Bic!). My main problem with this board, is that I can't duck-dive it, so I get kind of battered paddling out sometimes....
