I do this every year and normally stay with friends. This year i'm planning to spend more time in Santa Cruz and was hopeing to camp. I'm just wandering how cold it gets during the night in Santa Cruz?

Driving up the 1 adds hours onto the drive, but it is worth it. I went to school in Santa Cruz and camped all around there. I mean you can go north of town, but there are not that many beach front camp sites in town. Trust me, people get grumpy when you camp in their front yard. I loved Big Sur in the winter. I mean, it's cold but, there is just something abou that fog. And really, the cold keeps a lot of people away so you can stay at some amazing campsites solo. You just have to plan for the cold. And see if you can score a weather radio.

It is usually around 60 degrees day time and can get down to the high 30s at night. It is doable but you know if you are going to do it make sure to bring some warm sleeping bags and a good tent. Places that are near Manresa in Santa Cruz is a great place to stay it's about 15 minutes away from the city. It can be a little crowded in the summer but as far as winter goes it's pretty vacant. NOt to mention it's not to bad when it comes to the locals only most the surfers there are really friendly. If you want to know any other places to go camping just ask. There are tones of places and it's tones of fun to tell you the truth. It's worth the cold. you will have a total blast.
